Get that wrong and you could be pumping for hours with no visible change. However, as solutions go, this is about perfect in terms of price to performance. I'd say that if you ever imaging yourself needing to pump one thing from one place to another get one in for the emergency tool kit. For me, I used my to completely empty a toilet (it was clean water) so I could replace it with vinegar to sit overnight and clear out the limescale.
