**Q: Is this rubber strip heat resistant? I'd like to use it as a gasket in my gas water heater manifold door.**
A: According to the internet, neoprene has a burn point of 260°C or 500°F.  Water has a boiling point of 100°C or 212°F.  The metal used to house/move hot water can take on some of the heat from the water to get hotter than the water, depending on the metal.  You can look up the properties of metals (thermal conductivity) to figure out how much heat they'll take on.
It really depends on your specific hot water heater.  It's probably easier to spring for the part you need.

**Q: Does this have a smooth slippery finish or is it a soft somewhat tacky finish. I'm looking for something that is not slippery**
A: Smooth slippery. But I’m sure sand paper would fix that

**Q: Does this have an adhesive backing?**
A: No, there isn’t an adhesive backing. I used it on my indoor steps and used Liquid Nails to secure the underside, along with a few paneling nails on the front.

**Q: can this be joined by heat?**
A: No it's not possible to heat bond this material.  However Gorilla Glue worked well for me if you have a permanent non flexible area in mind.
