What can I do to eliminate the chemical smell. It's keeping me from using them!** A: It is possible to wash them in a washing machine in warm water with a bunch of towels on top. You'll have to push the pillow under the water a few times throughout the cycle. I also run it thru an extra rinse cycle. Also a dryer sheet and the air dry cycle on your dryer. Just remember NO heat. **Q: is the exterior covering washable?** A: For anyone else who wants to know, while this is supposed to be spot cleaned, you can put it in a pillow case and safety pin it shut or use one of the fine mesh (like Woolite or Tide brands) lingerie bags. Wash it on gentle and then air dry it. I even wash kids' stuffed animals that way, and they come out like new. It WOULD be nice if it came with a slip cover, but it doesn't, so this is an alternative way to wash it and get it really clean. **Q: Can it be a toy** A: No...it is filled with tiny styrofoam beads. If it gets a hole in it a small child could choke or suffocate on the tiny styrofoam beads. I would NOT recommend it for small children or a toy. It's not very comfortable as a neck pillow either & im not sure why it got decent reviews. I would give it 1 1/2 stars & that's being generous. :/ **Q: does the cover come off for washing?** A: No but if you have a newer type of washer and put it in a pillowcase cover (they have a zipper closure) to wash on a delicate cycle it will be fine.
