Review: Well constructed, retains the heat, and easy to clean - I am immensely impressed at the quality and performance of this French press. I needed a coffee maker that I could use to make several cups in the morning, where I could get a cup immediately and have another available in 10-20 minutes for my wife. I've used an Aeropress for years, and considered the Aeropress XL, but it's ridiculously priced for a few pieces of plastic and it's really designed for 2 cups brewed and consumed at the same time. When you open the box and pull this press out, you're immediately impressed by the weight and build quality. This isn't a thin glass vessel in a plastic carrier. The stainless steel, double walled construction has some heft. They even included an extra mesh filter, a nice touch. I was disappointed by desertcart's shipping. They sent it only in the manufacturer's box, which wasn't meant for shipping and the filter carrier was damaged by some impact. A few minutes with some hand tools and the anvil put it mostly back to true. It's not perfect, but it's not the manufacturer's fault. To see how this would perform, I ran an experiment: Started with coffee ground medium with a Cuisinart bur grinder. I used an additional paper filter, a few bucks for 100 on desertcart. Water boiled to 200 degrees fahrenheit French press at room temp, 60 degrees fahrenheit 2 scoops coffee, 4 cups water Ceramic mug at room temperature, 71 degrees fahrenheit Brewed for 3 minutes, used slow press for extraction. Coffee at 160 degrees fahrenheit in cup. No grounds Outside of french press slightly warm to the touch Then I gave it 10 minutes, undisturbed to see what my wife's cup was going to be like. 2nd ceramic mug at room temp, 71 degrees fahrenheit The coffee was 153 degrees in cup, still no grounds. By comparison, the first mug of coffee is at 120 degrees fahrenheit The double walled construction did a great job of retaining heat. I will need to use 5 cups of water next time. It was also very easy to clean. I would recommend this press to anyone looking to make a consistently tasty cup of coffee for more than one. It's durable construction and easy to clean stainless steel is a huge plus. I give it 5 stars! (I give desertcart's shipping 2 stars. Get it together desertcart!)
Review: Excellent French Press 17 MONTH UPDATE BELOW - What can I say, this Press is perfect; I wish I would have found this years ago. All Stainless Steel. NO PLASTIC PARTS! Makes two large mugs of excellent tasting coffee in 4 minutes and keeps the coffee more than just warm for at least an hour. It's so easy even a 19 year old can use it :) Although course grind is recommended I use very fine espresso ground coffee and only get a touch of silt (no grinds) in the bottom of cup #2 using only two of the included filter screens. Mine also came with two extra filter screens (total of 4; two installed, two in a bag) but see no reason to use them as the two included in the plunger assembly should last nearly forever. The plunger rod can be easily unscrewed from the top knob and the bottom filter assembly as delivered and there is no need to over-tighten them for use, keep them lightly screwed together and you'll have no problem taking it apart for cleaning. It is super easy to clean and looks good on the counter where our junky old kuerig used to be... (can you say 'hot water through plastic'?) 17 Month update: We have used this 2-3 times a day for over 17 months and it still preforms like new. Looks great, works great, still using the first two filters. This one is holding up so well I see no reason we will EVER have to buy another. If we did we get this one again.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there any way to measure the water level inside the press?**
A: The best way to add the correct amount of water is to place the the pot on a kitchen scale, switch the units to grams or ml, (e.g., 8oz = 237 ml, 32oz = 946ml), and pour the correct amount. To determine how much water, divide the weight of the dry coffee grounds in grams by 55, e.g., 17g /55 = 0.309 L or 309 ml, 10.4oz. Remember that some of your water will be absorbed into your coffee grounds. (Hint: I ask Alexa to calculate how much water to add by simply asking, “Alexa, what is 17 divided by 55,” and she happily gives me the right answer every morning.

**Q: is it really insulated?**
A: Yes it is, very heavy. Just make sure your water is really boiling. I love the taste of the coffee!

**Q: Is this made in China?**
A: Sorry, there is no manufacturing stamp on the press, and nothing on the paperwork to say where it is made.

**Q: Does the top completely seal off the spout when in closed position? I'm looking for a tight thermal seal.**
A: No. The top is a single unit of shaped steel with an opening for pouring. You can turn the opening away from the spout, but that doesn't seal it completely. I've found it best to brew coffee with an AeroPress and decant into a bespoke insulated carafe. That method keeps coffee warm for hours and has the advantage of removing the 'fines' so common with French pressing coffee. Those fines continue to steep coffee down to the last pour, which increases bitterness and muddiness with little flavor payoff.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Makes great coffee. Is a solidly built French Press. And, pours nicely. We're delighted with this product.
*by J***M on November 17, 2017*

We've had several French press coffee makers over the years. All of those were glass. The last one we purchased (Cafe du Chateau) from Amazon was obviously cheaply made, which was evident from the beginning. And, indeed, it began falling apart within weeks. When the glass broke for no apparent reason, we decided to go stainless steel. When the Bellemain French Press arrived about a week ago, it immediately felt like it was solidly built. The carafe is one solid piece with no seams, so unlike some all stainless presses we have read about, there is no possibility for water or coffee leaking in between the layers of stainless steel. The screen and plunger feel sturdy, unlike the others we have had. It makes a great cup of coffee and the coffee stays reasonably warm for a couple of hours, which is much longer than the glass models. We also use finely ground coffee on occasion. Although there is a little slush at the end, as should be expected, no grounds come through. Some other reviews say that the screen part cannot be removed. However, all that it takes the first time, is to use a pair of pliers to loosen the female end. After that there is no need to tighten it beyond a gentle hand tighten. In other models, the threads would strip very shortly after the first use. However, with the Bellemain, it feels like the threads are strong and the fit is exact. I don't expect to have any issues with this. Another complaint by reviewers concerns getting cut on the screen. This is an issue of common sense, folks. The screen is metal. The metal can cut. Don't move your hand along it. The screens have a seam around the edge, but some strands of metal can stick out. And, if you space out and get cut, you will heal. If you don't want to risk getting cut, buy a different type of coffee maker. In addition, this French Press pours nicely. We've had other types that would drip down along the carafe, unless you poured quickly risking splashing or over-filling. The only issue I have is with all coffee makers. They say, for instance with this model, that it makes 8 cups of coffee. A "cup" is a technical measurement term. A "cup" equals 8 ounces. But, all of these manufacturers use cup to mean 4 ounces. This is misleading and total b.s.
