WORKS on MacBook Pro 2017 to Apple Dual-Link DVI to Mini DisplayPort adapter w/firmware v1.3 to Apple 30" Cinema display

*by B***S on Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2018*

This product: "ALLSMARTLIFE" - USB C Type to Mini DisplayPort/Mini DP Adapter:** Yes this competitor's product that looks the same DOES work for me as follows: **1. From my MacBook Pro 2017,2. Using this USB-C/Thunderbolt-3 to Mini DisplayPort adapter,3. Into my Apple Dual-link DVI / Mini DisplayPort adapter,4. Into my 30" Apple cinema display.I see no flickering and no problems, it works fine.Competitor I tried "ITD ITANDA" - USB-C to Mini Displayport Adapter** No this does NOT work for me as described above, as follows: **I get nothing but artifacts and fractions of a second of what's on the screen.UPDATED 6/3/18 - NEW THEORY:"ALLSMARTLIFE" (this one), uses "active" chip/output which WORKS with the Apple Dual-Link DVI Mini DisplayPort (fw1.3) adapter's input."ITD ITANDA" (competitor), uses "passive" chip/output which is INCOMPATIBLE with the Apple Dual-Link DVI Mini DisplayPort adapter's input.I found out through a ton of googling that if the cable and adapters are not "active" then things seem flaky at best or just don't work at high-rez.Yes, in both tests of both adapters.. I have the USB Type-B Tail which is is the power connector for Apple's D-DVI -> MiniDP adapter plugged into a high-power USB, without it plugged it then nothing comes on at all (that's the Apple adapter's "power cord" so to speak)..Note the Apple 30" cinema display resolution is 2560 x 1600, which is within (less than) the published max resolution specs of this USB-C/ThunderBolt-3 to Mini DisplayPort adapter which DOES for me with This ADAPTER (NOT others that I tried).!!IMPORTANT!!: I believe I know why some reviews say a particular double-adapter effort like this works for them, and some say it doesn't; I think it's because there were at least 3 revisions of the Apple Dual-Link DVI to MiniDisplayPort adapter, with firmware versions 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, that you CANNOT upgrade through software. I know this first-hand as I originally had glitches with the Apple D-DVI to MiniDP adapter on my old Apple 2010 MacPro Xeon with firmware 1.1, but Apple physically exchanged for another free with the 1.3 firmware built-in to fix my issue at the time. TO BE CLEAR, I HAVE THE APPLE 1.3 FIRMWARE VERSION THAT IS WORKING WITH THIS "ALLSMARTLIFE" ADAPTER..So, long story short, if you go into your Apple Mac's display details, it will show you the firmware version of that Apple D-DVI to MiniDP adapter, and if you have firmware v1.3, then I can this one DID work with this particular USB-C/Thunderbolt-3 to MiniDP adapter-to-adapter from a MacBook Pro 2017, whereas others failed. Thus if this does NOT work for you as I described, then:1. Check your Apple Dual-Link DVI to MiniDP adpater firmware in your Mac's computer details, and2. If it's not firmware v1.3, then bring it into a Apple store and ask them to swap it free!3. (search for it, there is an Apple article offering this trade-in to v1.3 firmware for free without receipt and no matter when you bought that Apple adapter).Hope this helps someone out there to avoid frustration wasting $20 or get scared by guessing......

Works perfect connecting 2018 MBP to Mini DisplayPort Dual-Link DVI Adapter

*by A***E on Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2018*

After steeling myself for dongle hell I bought a higher-end 13" 2018 MacBook with 4 USB-C ports. After realizing there was no USB-C to Dual-Link DVI adapter to connect to my ASUS monitor at 2560x1440, I got everything working just fine with the help of this adapter. Here's my set-up:- This USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter- Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapterhttps://www.amazon.com/Mini-DisplayPort-Dual-Link-DVI-Adapter/dp/B0751RL35H/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1540172588&sr=8-3&keywords=apple+mini+displayport+to+dual-link+dvi+adapter- Apple USB-C to USB adapterhttps://www.amazon.com/Apple-USB-C-to-USB-Adapter/dp/B00VU2OID2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540171605&sr=8-1&keywords=apple+usb-c+to+usbNote: this Amazon Basics one is $10 cheaper and probably the better choice:https://www.amazon.com/Apple-USB-C-to-USB-Adapter/dp/B00VU2OID2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540171605&sr=8-1&keywords=apple+usb-c+to+usbThe DVI adapter requires two connections: DisplayPort for video and another USB connection for supplemental power. Along with my laptop input power that's 3 ports total - I'm glad I chose the 13" MBP with 4 ports instead of 2. If you have a 2-port MBP you'll need an external USB power hub for the supplemental power.Side note: I was tempted to go with the 2 port MBP to avoid the Touch Bar, since I like having an escape key. I decided to tolerate the Touch Bar in return for 4 ports when I discovered that it's possible to "remap caps lock to escape and control" - the Caps Lock counts as Escape if it's tapped on its own or Control when used with another key.

Cannot be used with 201 Macbook Pro to connect to DisplayPort monitor

*by N***D on Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2017*

Unfortunately, this adapter does not allow you to connect a DisplayPort monitor (e.g., ASUS PB278Q) to one of the newest Apple computers (e.g., 2017 Macbook Pro). I don't actually understand why, and it's not clear whether the blame for this not working lies with Apple or with AllSmartLife. One thing that is clear is that the USB-C ports on new Apple machines are actually Thunderbolt 3 ports. Both USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3 use USB-C connectors. So maybe there is some protocol mismatch happening here. I was under the impression that Apple machines would "do the right thing" even when USB devices were plugged into the Thunderbolt 3 ports, but maybe not. Anyway, this thing does nothing for me. Annoying.
