This was the first one I picked up for my little brother and all of Julia Donaldson’s books have become firm favourites at bedtime - he also loves to read them alone and has built up quite the collection now! As always the story is fun but still provides a lovely moral at its heart. The illustrations are wonderful and really add to the story. The writing is simple enough for children to be able to read alone but not overly simplistic, so it still provides a little challenge to improve on literacy. I got this as a copy to keep at our house for when my granddaughter is here. They have the board book but I like this more. It’s not as resilient as the board book but she is really gentle with books, considering she is only 16 months. She’s absolutely obsessed with this book and will read it again and again. She does all the actions and points to the broom, the hat etc. the illustrations are really funny and engaging.
