Now that it's warmer outside, I tried to use it for the first time. It's not the "1-second instant" that was advertised, but it seemed to be ramping up pretty quickly -- until the numbers went blank and just the bottom segments of a couple of the digits flickered. Fiddling with it later, I found that it does fine as long as the temperature is less than 100 degrees. As soon as it needs to display the 100s digit, though, it dies until it cools back down to 99 degrees or below. A new battery didn't help. ### ⭐⭐ Accurate but slow *by R***É on Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2017* After experiencing some frustration with this thermometer, I finally decided to do a "scientific" test with a stopwatch, ice water, and boiling water. This unit is advertised as being "instant read" in either 1s or 4s depending on what part of the description you look at. Test results: room temp to ice water took 17s to read the correct temp; room temp to boiling water took 13s. This is very frustrating when grilling and trying to get a read on the meat. ### ⭐ This item is garbage. I took it out of the package to test it and it worked just fine. I put it away. I finally had the need for a thermometer and the display was flickering, and was not legible and I could not change it from C to F. Did not even make it its first use.
