I'm glad I didn't let the reviews that said this wasn't the real Rob Thomas put me off.Admittedly, when I heard the intro to the first song my eyebrows raised. But a few play-throughs of the album told me all I needed to know. This is my Rob Thomas. However he goes about it, he still does that thing that always gets me: that combination of witty, interesting and heartfelt, lyrics, stirring up the emotions with barely reigned in excitement with laid-back, oh-so-smooth hooks and harmony. That's what I'm looking for in a Rob Thomas album, and he delivers in The Great Unknown. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Get A Little Wild *by L***G on Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2015* Rob Thomas' "The Great Unknown" may be his best solo set ever. "I Think We'd Feel Good Together" blasts the set off with a throbbing quasi-rap chorus, "Maybe you can stay one night or stay forever." The single "Trust You" follows with another pulsing beat and ends with what sounds like a child's voice echoing the title, "I trust you!" "Wind It Up" continues the pop ambrosia with Victor Indrizzo's pounding drum sounding somewhere between ecstasy and the resulting headache. "One Shot" follows with high energy pop-rock, "Everybody want to get high again and play it all night long; Everybody get a little wild and then they turn and go back home." "Absence of Affection" is the romantic polar opposite of the opening track with its breakup lyric laced over classic rock rhythms, "In the absence of affection, you'll take anything and call it love." "NLYTM" (Not Like You Told Me) has one of those catchy melodies that gets stuck in your head -- Boom Boom Boom! "Heaven Help Me" is another track that has me reaching for the repeat button the changer, a bit more melodic, totally catchy. "Lie to Me" is a strong track casting Thomas as the guy desperately in love, "Just tell me anything; Girl, you can lie to me; I want to hear you sing or scream and cry to me." This is Thomas' best since his 2005 "Something To Be" solo shot. Don't miss it! He played three off of this album and that was enough to get me interested. I actually bought the CD and popped it in. The first song is killer. His vocals are amazing and this is such a catchy song I cant get it out of my head. He obviously channels some MJ in there and his skills in doing so are evident.This is by far his best solo album and all of the songs are just well written and amazing. Some of the highlights are:1.) I Think We'd Feel Good Together - Catchy opener about sex, what can be wrong with this? Nothing!2.)Trust You - Great pop feel and you'll be hooked5.) One Shot - Another Catchy song that just gets you moving7.) Absence of Affection - At first I didn't like this but it grows on you. Its about someone that thinks they are so desired, yet no one else does9.) Paper Dolls - Haunting Sad song10.) NLYTM (Not Like You Told Me) - Seriously going to be stuck in your head11.) Pieces - Great vocal song......just greatOK...so I love metal and rock n roll....BUT I can deny the ability of Rob. He is amazing.
