Review: Ateco 612 Revolving Cake Stand - I LOVE it! The Ateco 612 is a basic, heavy metal revolving cake stand without ball bearings. It works perfectly! It has a good, heavy weight so it remains stationary. The spin is smooth and easy. It will require simple maintence (greasing the pivot) through out the years but is well worth the savings over the 613 modle. I am not a professional baker, but I bake a LOT...especially cakes for friends, family and special occasions. This piece will make my decorating a lot easier. If you are looking for a durable, heavy, revolving cake stand without having to spend a bunch of money...this is the one you are looking for. It will last a lifetime. Very good quality and is a piece I would hand down to my daughter someday. I seriously considered the Ateco 613 because of the positive and abundant reviews but was a little put off by the price. I didn't find much in the way of reviews for the Ateco 612. The 612 is seriously awesome, really. Much, much better than the little plastic stands.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Besides the cast iron vs. aluminum base, what is the difference between the 613 and 612 models?**
A: The 612 top surface is removable, which makes this turntable difficult to move around in one piece, especially with a cake on top. It is also pretty heavy since the bottom is cast iron. Not sure why the top is removable since it's impossible to set it down flat because of the steel rod that fits into the base.

**Q: How, exactly, is this supposed to be washed? Is either to bottom or top submergable? I want mine to last my lifetime and I want it really clean.**
A: I know I'm a bit late in answering this, but I'm mostly answering because *a lot* of people in the reviews don't seem to know this bit of information. Cast iron is never meant to be submerged or placed under running water. Like chocolate and oil, cast iron shouldn't mix with water. Ever. With a hot, damp, sanitized rag clean it off. Buttercreams and other fillings should wipe of easily. If the top gets dirty enough that it needs to be washed thoroughly, wash it quickly and immediately after dry it off with a dry, clean towel. It's very important that you use mineral oil on the moving parts. Other oils can cause buildup. Remember to always carry it by the base. You have no idea how many turntables have cracked from a drop and have needed replacing in my kitchen. I tell my bakers every time, but every now and then, someone forgets. Sincerely, a Pastry Chef that highly recommends this cast iron turntable

**Q: are you able to adjust the cake stand so that it does not rotate and can be used as a cake stand as well?**
A: It's actually not a cake stand but a turn table. It spins to allow the decorator to move the cake more freely. The turntable top is removeable; once the top is removed, you can place a drop or 2 of machine oil to make it move more smoothly without the grinding sound. It is not ment to go up and down but to spin on it's base. It can be used as a cake stand how ever just be careful not to knock the cake over in passing.

**Q: Does it have a lock to prevent moving on its own?**
A: No it does not. It is still smoother than Wilton's cake stands. I love mine.

Very nice cake decorating stand. My daughter worked in a bakery for years and this is the one they used. Now that she's moved on, she wanted one of her own. She LOVES it and it appears like it will last a very long time.
