### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Current "best bang for the buck" third party voice controlled remote for the Nvidia Shield
*by M***H on October 7, 2020*

I have tried over a dozen different voice control Nvidia Shield remotes during the past several years and am very impressed with this remote for its cost. My current remote that I compare this to the most is the Azulle Lynk (which you note that I allude to in the review below).Nvidia Shield compatibility - all buttons seem to work. Needed to use the Button Mapper app to program the home key to do the following:- Single click = TVLauncher launch- Double click = Recent Apps launch- Long press = Nvidia Shield Home launch2. Google Assistant - works very well. I was even able to control lights (Wyze WiFi lights) in my TV room with the remote as well as running a Routine ("Movie Time" causes Nvidia Shield to go to home and lights to turn off)3. IR buttons (Power and three blank buttons) - was able to get the remote to learn TV remote buttons (Power, Vol+, Vol- and Mute)4. Backlight - works well. Would prefer a tad brighter but works well, gyroscope allows backlight to turn on between front and back of remote when flipping the remote5. Keyboard - works well. Used it with Kodi, no problems6. Air Mouse - works well. Able to use it and still use all other remote buttons (like back button, navigation buttons, OK button, etc)7. Build quality - a little light, and a little cheap feeling, but the buttons have good "clicky" feedback8. Recharging - micro USB, came with little charge (evidently it takes two hours for full charge). Full charge gives you 12 hours of use. Not sure how much power drain occurs with it. I guess I'll see how long the remote lasts between charges. It uses an internal Cobalt Li-Ion rechargeable battery and I don't believe that it is exchangable. There's a LED at the top of the remote to tell you when its reached its full charge (color will change from orange to off when fully charged).9. IR dongle - seems to have good distance but my situation is optimum (I have line of site and am only about 8' away).10. Mic - has good sensitivity and Google Assistant seemed to be pretty accurrate with translating what I was saying to the appropriate actionPersonal pros -1. Really like the Google Assistant button and it works well with the Nvidia Shield. Nvidia has done a lot of work to increase the functionality of Google Assistant on the Shield and this remote takes advantage of it. I'm not a big user of voice control, but since this remote does it so well, I may use it more now.2. Remote seems almost 100% compatible with the Nvidia Shield right out of the box (other than needing to use the Button Mapper app to use the Shield's Recent Apps menu). Every button is clicky (more so than the Lynx as a previous poster mentioned).3. Air mouse seems to also have better control vs the Lynk and its nice that all the remote buttons work when in mouse mode.4. Remote is relatively cheap ($21.99) so if the kids break it not a biggie (unlike say my Logitech Harmony Elite Remote).5. I was able to control volume of both the Shield (with volume buttons) and the TV (with IR buttons) simultaneoulsy.6. I also like the menu button that automatically launches the Shield's settings menu.Personal cons -1. Button placement could be better - Would prefer if the Home and Back button were together and larger without the air mouse button in the middle. To me, the two most important keys are the Home and Back button (outside of the Navigation & OK buttons). The air mouse button, which is located between the Home and Back button begs for constant accidental activation. That being said, I suppose if one gets used to it, it won't be a huge problem.2. Button clutter - With the Shield in particular, I don't see the reason for number keys on the remote. Ditto for using this remote with FireTV, Roku or any other AndroidTV like box. The only place you might use them is when watching terrestial TV to rapidly change the channels, but since the number keys are not IR programmable I don't see the value in them at all and they just take up space and clutter the remote.3. Media keys - The media key buttons work, but they are hit and miss depending on the app (FF/RR work as 10 sec skips in Netflix, don't work at all with Disney, work as FF/RR with Prime Video). I think this is more of an app issue than a remote issue.4. Volume Up and Down access - The volume + and - is a toggle button next to the navigation keys. Would have preferred them to be isolated buttons that you can feel with your fingers (better in a dark environment). Don't see the point of the Page + and - but then again I never browse the internet on the Shield so that's a personal choice.5. Rechargable battery - this is a personal peev of mine as I very much hate rechargable remotes for the following reasons:a. If the inner battery goes bad, your remote is dustb. If the charging port goes bad, your remote is dustc. If you remote dies while your using it you are SOL. There's no battery indicator on the remote so there's no way to know when it needs to be rechargedd. Recharging this remote in general is incredibly slow. For this remote its takes 2 hours to charge a 200mAh battery? Phones with microUSB can charge much faster than that. Would have been nice if the charging port were USB C and it was able to fast charge (1 min charge = x hours of use).6. Limited IR button learning - Only four buttons and three of them are not even able to be labeled. I like that the Lynx turns the whole remote into a IR remote with the push of a button which allows you a lot more control of the TV and menu navigation. You can't do that at all with this remote and are resticted to using the IR buttons for very simple tasks (like Vol +/- and mute).7. The IR dongle - the dongle is small, unobtrusive but looks generic and is not labeled. Would have like a compartment in the remote itself to slide the dongle into so that the remote and dongle stay together in case I want to transport the remote and/or store for a later time. Many other remotes have this ability which I appreciate.8. Backlit button - The backlit button is both a right click button (click once) and backlight button (click twice). I use the backlight alot in my dark media room environment but I rarely ever have a need to perform a right click so combining these two actions into one button is a strange design choice. That being said, I feel that having a backlight for a media center remote is a must and many other third party voice control remotes do not provide this capability at all so I'm very happy that Auvipal decided to make their remote backlit capable. I would have preferred that the backlight button was isolated, larger and easier to find. I like that the Azulle Lynk puts this button on the side of the remote so it's very easy to find and activate. All in all though I agree with the previous poster that I think the Auipal G9 Pro+ is currently the best third party remote for the Nvidia Shield with voice control on the market at the moment. Thanks!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great for remote 2007 Mac mini ...
*by B***Y on December 31, 2020*

I'm using this as a remote for a Mac mini. The dongle is installed behind a TV and I am using the remote from about 15 feet away and don't have any issues with reception. As another reviewer mentioned, it lacks a command key that's found on Mac keyboards. However, I haven't really had an issue with not having access to that key as I am only using the Mac for limited purpose. One gripe I have is that would be nice is if the programmable IR keys were labeled with something like "A', "B", "C" instead of just all having "-" on the key caps. I don't use the voice assistant so not sure how well that works. I like being able to freeze cursor movement - nice feature. After about two months use, it's been performing nicely for my needs - still on the initial charge.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 3 weeks in…So far, so good…
*by D***R on March 17, 2023*

Out of the box just a few hours ago, and it’s managed to meet the initial expectations. Ergo is nice, fits well in the hand, and looks good. Using it for a Win 10 htpc/workstation. Mouse pointer is smooth and precise, volume control works well, although the mute button is 3 buttons above the ‘volume up’ button. The backlight works nicely and has the on/off function available via a double-click on backlight button, which strangely enough doubles as the right-click function with a single click. Watching the backlight follow the rotation of the device is cool.So far, the keys on the keyboard are accurate and responsive with a nice, smooth, yet clicky and slightly audible aspect. I would highly recommend Auvipal add an on/off switch or key disable in order to avoid the agitation of accidentally hitting the ‘power’ button, which I’ve done 3 times so far. I should’ve checked for that feature ahead of time. Other than that significant issue, I’d say this remote is pretty good at what it was built to do….so far.
