I read many reviews on the area that I am flying to and many of them said that pillaging at these particular airports were common, and that it is a good idea to get locks as well as have the airline shrink-wrap you piece (a service they provide...who knew!). To avoid all of this, I was going to just pack a carry-on, however, on some of the flights from country to country, the airline restrictions are so limited that it is almost impossible to not check one....unless you're flying first-class which allows for more. I guess if you were going to wear the same clothes all the time that would be ok, but we are going to several areas where the climate goes from really hot to very cold so we need to bring several layering items, etc. Anyways, back to the locks...again, they seem reliable and the combos were really easy to modify and they have the TSA keyhole so that they do not have to break it off of the luggage to check it, this way they can easily put it back on just like the description states. One of my friends family members stole from my purse. I need something small and light...yet easy to open** A: As long as you can hide the lock. Its not very visually appealing so if there is like a flap that covers the zipper, it would be more ideal. I honestly think it is somewhat difficult to take off luggage because I drop it all the time. May get kind of annoying with a purse. **Q: Has a key if I forget the combination?** A: No unfortunately it is against federal law to ship the key with the lock. We have tried to include it in the past but Customs won't allow it. **Q: Are these good for outdoor useage? There is not enough space for a regular lock on my back yard gate so i need a steel wire one.** A: No these won't hold up outdoors. The cord would but the lock itself would definitely break. I agree with the stainless steel mentioned before. Steel wire is great security, just check one out that has a stronger long lasting lock box on it. So it will hold up in temp changes and precipitation. **Q: would the cable pass a 5mm hole** A: The round metal tip on the end of the cable might not fit. To be safe, I'd suggest buying our other lock.
