Review: A serious, high quality tool at a reasonable price - The manufacturer has dedicated a generous amount of what they claim to be aircraft grade aluminum - which I have no reason to doubt - to making this pen. The result is a pen that feels hefty and robust, which is how I like it. I have no doubt that this pen can do a more than adequate job as a glass-breaker - the main reason I bought this product. In that regard, it is helped by its 6.25-inch length, since a good portion of the pen would extend out of the palm when it is gripped in the "ice pick" position. I love the steel pocket clip on this pen, as it is generously-sized, like the rest of the pen. The clip will latch onto either a shirt or pants pocket firmly; yet it is not overly difficult to pull the pen out of the pocket. Here we see a detail that attests to the care with which this pen was designed: this pen has a number of grooves on its body to improve grip, but someone made sure that the clip contacts the pen on a smooth surface, as opposed to a groove. The latter case would have made extracting the pen from the pocket more of a hassle, as I have experienced on another pen that I have. Speaking of the surface of this pen, the manufacturer claims that it is coated in titanium. Having no background in metal coatings, I can neither confirm nor deny this claim, except that I would note that the coating on this pen looks well-done (smooth with no blemishes) and seems to withstand abrasion better than the anodized surfaces of some of the aluminum flashlights and pens that I have. As far as using this pen to write - the only other purpose for which I bought it - I was pleased to see that it accepts the Schmidt easyflow 9000M refill, which is one of my favorites for ballpoint pens. The only thing that I had to do to ensure a perfect fit was file down the plastic end of the refill by about 1/32 of an inch - easily done with a steel file or even a coarse knife sharpening stone. The pen is well balanced and a pleasure to write with when outfitted with a nice refill (not to say that the refill that the pen came with is not good - it actually is quite decent in quality and does write upside down - but I prefer the tactile feeling of writing with the Schmidt refill). BTW, it might be a good idea to lubricate the rubber O-Ring in the cap of the pen with a little Silicone Lubricant occasionally, to keep it from over-drying.
Review: Great Product. Excellent Service. - Keep reading after description because service from SurvivalLife was exceptional. I was looking for a tactical pen to carry as part of by personal emergency/survival kit. I wanted a pen that wrote well under adverse conditions but was also comfortable in my hand; and that could be used to break windshield glass for emergency egress or ingress. As a former firefighter the glass breaking factor was most important for EDC. As an outdoorsman, the ability to write under extreme conditions was important. This pen meets all these requirements, and then some. As a pen, it functions beautifully. The ink cartridge looks like a Fisher pressurized cartridge, but there are no markings on it, so who knows. But it does write like one. The pen is long enough to be used comfortable either capped or uncapped. The length of the pen is only increased about 5/8" when capped, as most of the cap fits over the pointed end. Because the body and cap are both high grade aviation aluminum, the pen has a comfortable weight to it, not too heavy but not flimsy or cheap. Capped or not, it is balanced in your hand while writing. I have a medium to large grip, and it fit like a glove. The cap clicks on and off, so to expose the pen point you pull the cap off and you can then click it over the other pointed end. You know it is secured on either end by an audible click. There is a "rubber" o-ring inside the cap to make it a weather resistant seal. As a glass breaker, I have no doubt it will work admirably. The thickness of the pen body allows a firm grip, and having a flat cap allows your thumb to brace against it for an effective striking action. By my inspection I believe the pointed glass breaker end is solid for about an 1 1/4" or more, so I'd feel confident using it. Keep this in your car for escaping an emergency, or to assist someone else escape a dangerous situation. If I was still in service, I'd get one for bunker carry. In fact, I'll be getting one to put in my wife's car soon. As to "stopping an attacker in their tracks", I would and do contend that if your attacker has gotten that close to you, you are in a world of trouble. Close contact combat is generally only feasible for very highly trained and skilled people, and then it is still an iffy situation. That said, if you were able to utilize this as a weapon effectively, you could do a world of hurt. But it would be third or lower in my plan of personal defense. As to customer service, I received my pen with a defective ink cartridge - the ball point was defective - causing constant line skips and frequent word skips. Upon notice to the seller (SurvivalLife), I received an immediate response and offer for replacement. Two days later, I received a replacement by priority shipment -- no hassles and no cost. Happy, happy, happy! They even followed up to see if I got it and if I was sufficiently satisfied. I cannot say enough about how great it is to deal with people who stand behind what they say. I will surely look to deal with them in the future, and can heartily recommend them to you.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: About how long is the pen? And does the cap fit on the other end when writing?**
A: The pen is at right about six inches in length. The cap does fit over the other end when writing. There is a small o-ring that keeps cap tight to pen, I have found that adding a very light coat of machine oil to 0-ring prolongs life of 0-ring if cap is removed frequently for writing and also keeps 0-ring from slipping which I have had happen with other brand pen/s but not with this one so far.

**Q: Has anyone taken this on an airplane? (i'd hate to take it with me, only to get it confiscated by tsa)**
A: Well, I've been traveling with mine for over 8 years, in and out of LAX, Chicago Ohare(ORD), and most of my trips are to Costa Rica were I have stopover in Panama, Guatemala or El Salvador....I've always taken it out of my cargo pocket and tossed it with my wallet, keys, belt, boots, etc. Never a problem, until my flight from Midway, Chicago, last Tuesday. And, it wasn't even my pen but the one I bought for my wife last year who had it in her purse! This chubby Nazi TSA thought she'd caught the biggest find of her career! I was calm, explained it was a pen, showed her it had no sharp tungsten carbide tip and she told me it could be used to break the window in the jet! I laughed and said if she wanted one so bad to buy one and Don't steal my wife's...they're less than twenty bucks! Now, mind you, I had already put mine back in my cargo pocket and was discussing this with her with mine in plain sight...I was lucky she was so incensed that we were trying to pull a fast one she couldn't see straight! I'm 68, walk with a cane, and my wife is 62...not really the terrorist profile. The problem arises that these little people have to justify their jobs. I am so tired of having to buy a new pocket knife or nail clipper, tactical pen or whatever else they've decided is a weapon that we,as Americans, have to put up with this crap because some crazed foreigner could possibly cause a problem with it! The other day I got up to use the bathroom on the plane and was told to wait in my seat as a sky Marshall could arrest me for waiting outside the door! Yes, it was the front bathroom near the pilots door, but was it necessary to threaten me? I was in the front row, 5 feet from the toilet and It ended up 3 people got in front of me while I patiently waited in my seat and I never heard the stewardess tell those women what she told me, hmmm, being a white man in America sure has its perks. Sorry for the rant, I'm just sick of how my country has become this scared of its own shadow mentality.

**Q: what kind of warranty does it have?**
A: I'm not aware of any warranty.

**Q: Does the cap screw in or snap on? The one I had used a rubber print to snap the cap on and once worn out no way of figuring how to replace it.**
A: It is a snap on cap. I have not seen any sign of wear or had any issues with the cap so far. I carry mine every day and am very happy with it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Nice Entry-Level Tactical Pen That Works.
*by R***R on February 22, 2017*

After having used this for a few days I'm going to go ahead and give this one the review I think it deserves. First, I just got this for it's primary use, a pen. It did not fail in that respect. The fact that I can toss a Space Pen refill into it is also a plus. The writing is smooth, the weight is nice and I don't get hand cramps from it. The pocket clip is secure and it fits nicely in my shirt pocket. The flat end is great for an icepick style grip. The entire pen feels pretty solid and I do like it and I would recommend it. There is, however, one minor con and it's a design flaw that takes a star off. The pop-off, pop-on cap. It has a small amount of play to it. When the pen is deployed, that's not an issue but when it's time to put the cap on, it doesn't instill a lot of confidence. It doesn't pop off unexpectedly, though and the cap does stay securely on the pen. Having no "DNA Catcher" crown is a plus in my book. I have a tactical pen with one of those and I am constantly poking myself with it. I'd prefer the flat end so that my thumb can reinforce the grip I have on it. I have one suggestion. I would leave it as a screw on cap for the defensive tool purposes and a pop-on, pop-off for when the pen is deployed. Basically, screw the pen cap off to deploy the pen and pop onto the other end, pop off the other end and screw back on to deploy the defensive end. Doing this would make this pen pretty much rock solid and it would earn a definite fifth star if my pen were designed like that. Honestly, though, this is still my "go-to" tactical pen until it dies or I find one better and I'd still recommend this to anyone who wants to get started in tactical pens. Your mileage may vary
