The self clean option is a tremendous asset. It looks to me like a home run. I will update later on in the season.Update 6/19/14The filter has exceeded my expectations. It's June and my water is crystal clear. It does such a great job that I have to use the self cleaning mechanism at least twice a week. I just throw the waste water in the garden as suggested. No need to open the unit till winter comes.This is the filter to buy.Update 7/31/14Mid way through the summer and the filter is working impeccably. Just 2 things to note. a screw came out of the self cleaning mechanism that caused me to open the unit. i was able to reattach the screw in 2 minutes (not certain how it became loose in the first place)Opening the unit turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the bio balls within the unit needed to be cleaned out. I have to schedule open the unit to give it such a clean at least every 4 to 6 weeks as the self cleaning mechanism only cleans the foam. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ New pond filter *by R***S on Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2013* We bought this filter to replace the original one we've had for about seven years. This filter is great! I love how easy it is to clean up. Our pond was so dirty I had to take it apart this past weekend after running for two weeks, but even doing that was easier than the old filter. My only issue with the kit was that the pump wasn't strong enough to handle our combination waterfall and pond, but I'll take the blame on that. I should have researched how big the old pump was and the distance the hose is running. They were important. All in all great product, I'm very satisfied! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Overall solid pond filter *by A***L on Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2013* The performance of this pump is consistent with the other good reviews. We installed the pump in our algae ridden filthy pond and this filter completely cleared up the water.However, i would caution consumers in regards to purchasing this "kit." I installed the entire kit, only to find out that the pump didn't provide enough pressure to pump thru our waterfall. But that is ultimately my fault for not calculating the head loss thru our pond system. I just want to caution people to not repeat my mistake and purchase the pump, only to put it in the closet.An issue i have with the filter is that the back flushing valve is not water tight. When you place the back flushing valve in the filter position, water leaks out the back flushing port.
