Then she knows if something is out-of-whack even if she otherwise feels fine. The readings show up a few seconds after clamping it onto the finger and are very consistent. The display shows a cute little bar that jumps with each pulse. The iPhone app is quick & easy to connect with Bluetooth and has a beautiful moving graph that tracks history like a fancy medical monitor. I was able to show her how to use this without even reading any of the manual. A quick tap on the menu button flips the screen 90 degrees (one of four orientations). There is only one product improvement I would suggest if the manufacturer is reading this.. I'd like to be able to use Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAA batteries rather than regular alkaline because they last much longer (according to the manual it has to be regular alkaline). I only trust Masimo pulse oximeters for accuracy; the other copycats are inaccurate junk. Why can't rechargeable batteries be used?** A: I do not represent the manufacturer, but the engineering answer is that a pair of non-rechargeable alkaline cells in series put out 3.0 volts when fresh, whereas a pair of rechargeable cells (whether NiCd or NiMH chemistry) only put out 2.4 volts for most of their useful life. For many types of electronics, 2.4 volts isn't enough to run them. For some devices, you might add another cell to the rechargeable battery pack to get up to the required voltage, but the finger-sized MightySat doesn't have any room to do that. That said, a pair of AAA alkaline batteries will run the MightySat for several hours of measurements. If you need continuous measurements for days on end, then you need a medical device that plugs into the wall, or has a large battery pack. **Q: Does this support multiple users?** A: I am a Physical Therapist Assistant and I use it everyday with all of my patients. It gives me a readout that BlueTooth's to my cell phone. I can email the results to myself of my patient. There are instructions to that effect in the user manual, lots of studies about the efficacy of the information which corresponds to other Masimo Finger Tip Pulse Oximeters (I have three) and it suggests that you use the fourth finger, but I have good results on any finger. Very impressive technoology, and you can tap the screen on the cell phone if you want a quick reminder what the values tell you for example the Perfusion Index gives you the blood speed in centimeters per second. Or the Plethysmographic Index gives you parameters of 5 and 40 for the ratio of dynamic over static blood flow, which tells you if you have "over-hyrdrated yourself or as is usually the case under hydrated, or dehydrated yourself either by not drinking enough fluid or exercising the fluids out of your body. But "Water Intoxication" can also occur. That is another advantage of this technology. **Q: What does "ability to trend and communicate measurements " really mean? Does it mean to store recording history, and for how long.? I** A: Yes. If you select one of the two Bluetooth compatible versions of MightySat, your measurements can be viewed on the smart phone (after downloading the Masimo Personal Health App) for up to 12 hours.
