**Q: Can I just buy replacement filter media and not the entire thing again? Feels wasteful to throw the whole thing out and replace it.**
A: Yes. They sell replacements that just contain the charcoal pack  and cap that screws into the fitting.  http://www.airexco.net/septic-vent-filters-c-133_207/septic-vent-replacement-filter-pack-p-1814.html Part #FRSVC4They are kind of pricey, though.  IN the Amazon listing, it says they last 6-8 months but in the instructions that came with it, it said replace every 30 days.  I have had mine in  for over 3 months and it still seems to be working, though. No odors.

**Q: does it leak rain water into the septic system?**
A: if you live in Florida or somewhere that gets a lot of water I would not use this alone. Here in Wyoming the filter that is there will keep the rain out.
