Review: The best bang for your buck knife around. - Moraknives are fantastic, nothing more needs to be said. In my picture I originally bought the green one with the carbon steel blade and was so impressed I bought the orange with the stainless immediately after. These are comfortable, durable, multi-purpose, and SHARP. You’re getting $50+ worth of knife for $15. By multi-purpose, I mean you can use it as an every-day carry, a toolbox/fishing/outdoors knife, a hunting knife, or a kitchen knife. It’s that good. If I have one qualm, and it’s extremely minor, I’d have preferred a black sheath. The sheathes being the same bright green and orange colors as the knives make them stand out a ton when worn, but again, not really the biggest deal. But they’re light, they hold the knives securely, and the clip is a nice touch when most knives only offer a belt loop. File these under “will not regret purchase.”
Review: Put this knife to work! - I carry a Leatherman around with me all the time. I use it at home, work, and for camping. While it has performed well over the years, I wanted a knife that had a slightly bigger blade on it that I could use for some more robust tasks. With the exception of the Leatherman, I don't think I've ever bought a knife before. I have a lot of nice ones that were given to me as gifts over the years but the problem is....I don't like to use them! They are just too nice and expensive. For example, my wife bought me this really nice Benchmade pocket knife that has my initials engraved on the side of the blade. I love to look at it...but I'm not taking that camping to hack up some tinder for the fire. Anyway, I wanted an inexpensive knife that would be an all purpose workhorse for the tool table in the garage, the defender of the yard work chores, and the champion of the camping trip. After doing a little research, I eventually was brought to the Morakniv Companion. The reviews looked good and the price was unbelievable. I decided to take a chance on it and I am very glad I did. This is a great feeling knife and yes it is very sharp! Before I got to attached to it's "newness", I immediately put this thing to work out in the yard. I took some fallen tree limbs and began trimming them up to make some tomato stakes for the garden. Trimming them up and sharpening the ends to a point proved to be no problem for the knife. I used it assist in removing some of my vegetables from the plants and to cut some twine for another job. By the end of the day, I was cutting up and breaking down some cardboard boxes with it. The knife doesn't look as new anymore...but she still is plenty sharp! The knife feels good and the hard shell sheath does a great job of keeping it secure. The Morakniv is much more comfortable to use compared to my Leatherman and I prefer to use a knife like this for bigger tasks. I think having the combination of both my multi-tool and this particular knife will prove to be a winning combination around the house and for camping trips. It's well made and one that is not so expensive that I'm too scared to put it to work. I recommend.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I used this knife while camping and after using it to cut up some meat the blade looks blue now. Does anyone know why?**
A: Did you by chance heat the blade to sterilize it? If you applied high temperature or flame to the blade it could have created a heat induced patina. Otherwise there could have been acidic reaction from different juices or marinades. I recommend using a good metal cleaning agent like “Bar Keepers Friend” or you could go the route of using something simple like WD-40 or Rem Oil to see if the coloring returns to normal. If not, I don’t think that the performance of the knife will be affected in any way. This is a truly great quality knife that will last a lifetime with proper care and use.

**Q: is this a full tang knife?**
A: 3/4 length tang with about 3/4 width as well.  To give the handle something to grip, chunks of metal  are stamped out  - “U” like, one up then one down. This prevents the blade from either pulling out  or getting shoved into the handle, the alternating up and down notches give the “melted on” handle gripping surface. In real life use, all the Mora’s are sturdy even the lighter ones like the Basic.  However if you are batoning to split firewood, use common sense - the Robust, Garberg, and Heavy Duty models are better choices for more serious bushcraft with batoning harder and thicker woods.  The Basic in particular has broken inside its handle in two online videos, in both videos, failure occurred when the pronounced Basic finger guard was allowed to rest on a flat surface so the hand became de facto immobile, then the tip of the knife on the other side of the chunk of wood was hammered down with a stick; that “rocked” the blade on the finger guard as pivot and snapped it inside at one of the notches.  As a rule of thumb don’t baton with less than a 3.0mm blade thickness, and in an emergency with thinner blades, baton with moderate force and don’t resist the handle from rocking up in your hand - don’t push down hard on the handle at the same time you baton the tip. Be patient and baton the tip first then rock the handle down with the least force it takes.

tl;dr - don’t baton if you can avoid it, and select thicker blades if you must. Also carry a Basic as backup, just 4 ounces with sheath, and gram weenies can masking tape the edge and carefully carry it without sheath for use only in a true emergency.

**Q: does this knife float?**
A: No the knife does not float.

**Q: will the knife stay in the sheath if mounted upside down?**
A: Hi Smokin, Yes, but with a qualification. It fits with pressure- not a strap or lock. It is possible when taking it in and out to not "seat" it all the way. Then it can flop out. I strap them to the outside of my pack and have never lost one or had one fall out. I like the fit of these molded handle models better than the Mora's with smooth rounded handles and tube-like sheaths. A mod could prevent it falling out. I would not recommend depending on the sheath fit and carry it upside down or bungee with it!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Inexpensive quality

Pros: I give this a 5 star rating for the price and practical design. It's super light for backpacking/ BC skiing/hunting/etc... it's stainless steel, sharp, the sheath retains the knife very well , the sheath doesn't soak up water, the sheath can be attached to any waistband, and most of all its inexpensive. Cons: for a fixed blade I could use a slightly large blade for baton-ing wrist sized firewood, like a taller blade, so that you get more drive into the wood before the blade is buried. I thought it would replace a carbon steel, leather sheathed knife that rusts and is too heavy, that I have. Sometimes I can see the blade bending inside the wood if the grains twist, so far it springs back into shape afterwards. Works on pine and most western evergreens, don't use it on oak or dried out eucalyptus. But, hey, it's under 20$, break it and pull out the other one you bought for your boat/truck/cabin/shed/camper/garage/daughter/son/wife/brother/friend...etc
