It worked fine for the the first 2 pencils and from then on started destroying pencils. I have 2 brand new batteries in there so I know there is enough power going to the sharpener. Instead of a nice clean shave of the pencil, it pulverizes the wood and continuously breaks off the lead. Its useless. Colored pencils are too expensive to waste like that. I'm tossing it rather than return it. I don't know what's going on with Amazon lately but many items I've received from them lately have been broken or had problems. I'm using it for colored pencils, and so far it's breaking more of the tips than sharpening, and I'm reluctant to keep using it because of how much of the pencil it's chewing through each time. I also didn't expect to need to use two hands to work the sharpener. The first time I inserted a pencil without bracing the sharpener with my other hand, the whole thing spun around the pencil I was trying to sharpen and knocked the rest of my pencils off the desk.
