**Q: Can this be washed before first use? It seems to loose bits off the material just by using a dry towel…not sure if this is ok?**
A: The banneton is made of compressed wood pulp and as such should not be washed. Simply dust with rice flour and away you go.

I was really impressed with this purchase after seeing this type used in one of my favourite Sourdough YouTube channels. My first loaf (pictured) contained 1.16kg of dough and it held its shape nicely, after an overnight final proving in the fridge. I like the waffle effect which gave a pleasing result when baked.
