I also own a brass flugelhorn, several cornets, trumpets and other brass instruments. The only other non-metallic instrument I've played would be a fiberglass sousaphone. And it played fine. Review: Not A Bad Instrument For Something Made From Plastic - So "Santa" got me this flugelhorn for Christmas this year since I had always wanted my own Flugelhorn but wasn't about to fork over my wallet in return. This horn intrigued me 1. Because the price was reasonable enough and 2. The quality of the instrument looked reasonable as well. Since playing it for about 10-15 minutes, the valves are a little stiff and definitely need to be oiled. As you'll see in the video, it sounds better in the lower range than in the higher range. The quality is pretty impressive for something that's made out of plastic. The only downside is that I thought it would be gold, but somehow I got the silver version which I can't complain too much about. It is a Denis Wick style mouthpiece **Q: does this plastic horn sound like a traditional brass flugel?** A: Yes. Sounds like a Flugelhorn. The first half of this video is a Conn 16-E and the Tromba Flugelhorn playing together. Don’t have anything with it isolated. https://youtu.be/qX0A4c5xuf8 **Q: Does it come with valve oil?** A: I didn't t get any valve oil with my Tromba flugel. Since the valves have steel sleeves on the outsides and the valve bores have brass sleeve inserts on the insides, it matches the arrangement on my Kanstul and Yamaha flugels. Therefore, I use the same valve oil that I use on them . . . . . Al Cass. Any good valve oil should work.Also, I've noticed the valves are generic and that any of the valves will work in any of the bores, although the 3rd valve is rotated 180 deg. from 1 and 2. I swapped valves to find which valve-bore pairings worked the best. In my case, the 1st valve works better in the 3rd valve bore and the 3rd valve works better in the 1st valve bore. Hope this helps. **Q: Anybody tey this horn with a better mouthpiece? Any differences? Troma gave me no input regarding an uograde. Emails never get a response from maker!** A: I used a couple different mouthpieces. For me, it did not matter. Overall, I give it a 3.5/5 as of now. ### ⭐ This horn will break quickly *by L***A on May 20, 2022* the horn came cracked and needed a lot of blue juice for the 3rd piston to move normally. after a few hours of playing it was clear that I needed to return it because there was a crack on the 2nd piston cover that would soon make the instrument unplayable.
