(Not just plasterboard)** A: For many of the tests you connect each device at either end of the cable. Thus, it doesn't matter whether the cable runs through wood, concrete, plasterboard, plaster, etc. To find the tone using the sensing probe (wirelessly), I have only succeeded to find the tone when the probe tip is right next to the cable (<1/2 inch away, Cat5, Cat5E or Cat6 cable typically). For coaxial cable (for TVs), the probe can't drive substantial lengths of this cable. I have used a different device to test connectivity on those (which is based on DC and uses different known impedances to validate connectivity). **Q: Is this just for data or can it do twin, flex etc?** A: It can do both - note there are croc clips on one of the cables which you can snap onto a twin flex ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good useful piece of kit. *by M***E on 4 May 2026* Good useful piece of kit, not too expensive. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ great for the money *by H***W on 19 November 2022* this is a great tester as you can plug cat 5/6 cables into it ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great quality *by P***I on 25 October 2023* Well made, great quality, Definitly recomend it. ## Frequently Bought Together - Klein Tools VDV500-705 Wire Tracer Tone Generator and Probe Kit for Ethernet, Internet, Telephone, Speaker, Coax, Video, and Data Cables RJ45, RJ11, RJ12 - Klein Tools VDV427-300 Impact Punchdown Tool with 66/110 Blade, Reliable CAT Cable Connections, Adjustable Force, Includes Pick and Spudger --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.tn/products/227441953-vdv500-705-tone-generator-and-kit-wire-tracer-and-tester](https://www.desertcart.tn/products/227441953-vdv500-705-tone-generator-and-kit-wire-tracer-and-tester) --- *Product available on Desertcart Tunisia* *Store origin: TN* *Last updated: 2026-10-04*
