In the case of these weights, it's pretty easy. For the first three, just double the number. 1.5kg=3pounds; 3kg=6 pounds; 4.5kg=9 pounds. After that, it's a little more complicated, but very little. By the previous conversion, 6kg should = 12 pounds. But it doesn't. It's 13 pounds. 7.5 kg should equal 15 pounds, but in reality, it's 16. The reason for the change is that kg don't match up perfectly with pound conversions, and when you reach 6kg, the overage catch up. If you don't think you'll remember these conversions, take a piece of masking tape, write the conversions on the tape, and stick it to the base the weights sit in. Just leave it in the holder and turn the black grip handle to the right (clockwise). There is a button on the holder that fits into a hole on the weight to release it so that it's safety-proof. I kept trying to adjust the red part, lifting it up, etc. Just turn the red part to the weight you want, grip the black handle, don't move it out of the holder, turn it to the right, and it will click into place. Others probably have no problem, but I kept trying to adjust it like other sets I've had.I like this set as it's easy, adjustable, sturdy, and I feel comfortable with it while working out. I've seen other reviews that have an issue with it being in kilograms, but I don't mind that and kind of like it as it forced me to go up in weight a bit.
