There was a nice layer of padding when attached to the wrist, and the straps were made of strong material. I used these at the gym, and they were amazing. Usually as I increase my dead-lift load I have to use a mixed grip to still be able to lift the weight without the bar sliding out from my hands. With these straps I had no problem lifting the weights with a double overhand grip.
