Review: This is a simple butt set but is sturdy, well made, and doesn't require a battery to operate. I've been using this butt set for a month so far and haven't had any problems yet. it's a good backup for my ts54 which I unfortunately had to replace the alligator clips for way back. if you are just starting out in telecom installation this is a must have tool. It does have a small speaker but it requires you to hold it up to your ear. **Q: connects to which exterior wires** A: This with connect to a d-mark panel where the phone lines come into a building or with the "bed of nails" will connect directly to the 24 gage datacom wire. **Q: Can this set also connect directly to an RJ11 jack** A: The TS19 does not have an attached RJ11 connector. You can, however, use one of our modular adapters in conjunction with the ABN clips to test an RJ11 jack. **Q: What is ABN? What is the difference between ABN and the alligator clip?** A: Angled Bed-of-Nails (ABN) are just alligator clips but with VERY SHARP TEETH (actually a round "pad" with a bunch of needles sticking out) that can clamp down on a wire and pierce the insulation and make actual ELECTRICAL contact with the metal core of the wire. With a normal alligator clip you would have to take a knife and scrape away the rubber insulation on the outside of the wire--exposing the metal strands of wire inside and then clamp. So basically Angled Bed-of-Nails (ABN) = alligator clip with super sharp insulation penetrating teeth that gets you electrical contact. Fluke also has clips with a piercing pin, which I've seen with just one big spike--but some I've seen have a big spike and the round pad of piercing needles.
