It keeps her from chewing or eating her hair, paper, and clothing. It can easily be lengthened, washes easily, and is an attractive braided cloth necklace. She's only had it a couple of weeks, but it is holding up well so far. I will likely buy more of these if she continues to find them useful (I purchased two for Christmas--one for home and one for my house). I think it helps her to chew on something to alleviate stress at school and elsewhere. In fact, she was chewing it as she was led to my car in the pickup line at school.
