It's safe to assume that Algalife astaxanthin's red color is natural, since the only ingredients listed on the box are: natural astaxanthin (from Haematococcus pluvialis), sunflower oil, fish gelatin, glycerin and water. I have sustained an injury on my left knee for seven years now - tore up a lot of cartilage back then - and have been much more conscious with my diet since. Refusing to go for surgery, I've tried everything from cutting down on meat and watching my protein intake (since meat and protein are naturally acidic and a lot of alkaline is needed to rebuild cartilage in the joints) to forcing myself to wolf spinach down. I'd tried oranges and mushrooms and turmeric. They helped but because I do sports - parkour specifically - I'd always feel a weird sensation in my knee if I got too carried away. The best improvement I'd experienced before Algalife was consuming Osteo Bi-flex's "Triple-strength w/ Vitamin D". After a couple months of consumption, I was able to run and jump as per normal, and the creaking sound I would hear and feel sometimes when I flexed my left knee went away for the most part.However I realized my injury wasn't quite gone yet when I had to crouch down in my bathtub once to do some cleaning a couple months ago (around late November). I'd leaned on my left side and had a little difficulty getting up due to the pressure put on my left knee. A week later I'd leaned on my right and was able to get up no problem. A little demoralized (knowing full well that age will eventually catch up to my injured knee), I googled to see if there was a way to completely heal damaged cartilage without surgery. I chanced upon an article on Astaxanthin which eventually led me to the Amazon page. I decided on Algalife and lo and behold, after just a week of consuming it daily, I was able to lean on my left side for a while and get up without feeling the pressure I had before! The other day, I jumped about seven feet down and landed on concrete and didn't feel anything on my left knee at all.And the cherry on top? I haven't gotten sick (knock on wood) since I started consuming it, despite the fact that I'd had only a few hours of sleep on a couple occasions in the last month and been around someone with a cold. I gave this five stars instead of the four I would normally give a supplement without independent lad verification. For any supplement, without an independent lab verifying the ingredients, dosage, and lack of manufacturing chemicals, we just have to take their word for it. However, I am inclined to believe this company's commitment to their product and manufacturing process, they appear to take their manufacturing process very seriously and they comply with the stricter European regulations (EC 1881/2006 and amendment EC 629/2008) regarding mercury (Hg) contamination of food supplements (NMT 0.1 ppm).Beyond that it has the proper recommended dose (12mg.). I noticed that many of the competing products did not and even stated the strength in misleading terms. You only need to take a single gelcap to get this dose, so it is a true 60-day supply. The oil base is best for this kind of supplement and the source (microalgae from Iceland) is a plus. It is also a very good price for this product. I also like the blister packaging, it makes it easy to take when you travel. Finally, the price is very reasonable. I have tried several different brands, but I have the most confidence in this brand and will continue to use it. The two boxes of AlgaLife Pure Icelandic Astaxanthin arrived within a few days of ordering. I like the blister pack packaging: The gel caps don't get stuck together like they would if they were in a bottle. The expiration date on both boxes is for April 2023. I was worried about that, because the items were inexpensive. I thought maybe the vendor was trying to sell old product at a lowered price.Do your research about Astaxanthin. You can find scientific articles on the internet concerning the claims made about the supplement. You may have to take Astaxanthin every day for up to two months before noticing its effects. Take Astaxanthin with food, maybe with something a little bit oily or fatty. Otherwise the supplement will just sit in your stomach and dissolve there, rather than be digested in the intestines.
