Specifically you'll want to apply the gel to the mouthpiece so that there is minimal gel touching your gums. If it burns then rinse your mouth immediately and wipe the mouthpiece of excess gel so it doesn't contact gums or squish out so it contacts the roof of your mouth, etc.. Also don't use every day if your gums are sensitive. Skip a day or two between treatments if there's discomfort. You really have to pay attention to how you apply the gel to the mouthpiece and less is definitely more.
