Ok, for the price but some obvious blunders and limitations

*by A***I on Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2022*

First of all, the small size of the screen makes it hard to type in the words correctly. You will get frustrated deleting and rewriting words. Second, the maps will sometimes make mistakes of sending u down a street that is only one way. Use common sense by looking at the signs and if it doesnt feel right dont go through the exact street being pinpointed. Third, some Hotels wont appear in the gps database. As a result, you might need to type the physical address to get the right location. Fourth, some streets are not recognized by the app. My advise would be to break down long street names into individual words and try the search that way in order to get success.I think that for the price you are getting something useful, but it will require a lot of patience and figuring out how to work around the problems that will commonly arise with the GPS.Also, not all gas stations showing up in the GPS are actually existent, so rely more on signs when looking to refuel.

Garmin 1370T Keeps you on track

*by A***J on Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2010*

I purchased the Garmin Nuvi 1370T in early August. I will likely use this unit in my travels to cities within the U.S. but my motivation for purchasing it at this particular time was to use it during a trip to Ireland. Having just returned from that trip, I can say that this was definitely a good purchase that I would recommend for others searching for a GPS that can be used both in Europe and the U.S. In Ireland, the 1370 was most helpful navigating in the cities and towns. It gave turn by turn directions - such as announcing beforehand which exit you needed to take in an upcoming roundabout. It sure beats frantically searching for the signs while in the roundabout and trying to navigate hectic traffic. The other big positive was the feature displaying the speed limit. I found this particularly useful since the speed limit signs in Ireland seem to be few and far between (they have only a few "standard" speed limits depending on road type). I found the speed limit that the Garmin displayed to be accurate probably 90% of the time, so you still need to be watching out for changes on the road to catch the few times when the Garmin is wrong. I updated the maps before I left and was disappointed that a couple of the new motorways and some changes to major intersections near the airport were not in these maps. It would be one thing if the motorway just opened this year, but one of the major motorways has been open a few years and still is not in the Garmin maps. Also, in Ireland you need to know the town and county to which you want to navigate since there may be several towns with the same name. The preloaded Points of Interest are not very useful. At one time I was in a moderate size city searching for an ATM in the preloaded POIs and it was telling me the closest was 20km away when in reality there were banks within only a few blocks. The restaurant listing is minimal - I'm not sure how Garmin develops these POI lists but it isn't from the Yellow Pages since most restaurants are not in there. A word of warning: don't trust the lat/long coordinates published in the Irish B&B Guide. While these coordinates will get you in the vicinity,I found most of them to be only approximate. However, when I plugged in coordinates provided directly from each B&B's website, the Garmin took me right there - particularly useful when you are arriving after dark and the B&B is hidden by hedges. The few times that I used the unit in the states (just to familiarize myself with it before my trip) I found it to be very accurate. You will not likely use it around where you live since you probably have a good idea of the shortest/best routes around your home area, but if you were a visitor it would be very useful even if it doesn't direct you via the "local shortcuts." Finally, it is annoying that Garmin does not provide a full printed manual with your unit. It comes with a basic quick start guide but the full manual is only available on line. The window mount suction cup has worked flawlessly - I have had no problem with it loosening, shaking, or falling off once properly mounted. I have had no problems with the Garmin acquiring satellites or downloading map updates. I don't plan to use the Bluetooth phone connection so can't comment on that feature. If you don't need the Europe maps, to stretch the value of your dollar research other units for a comparable price that provide features that this one doesn't (Lane Assist, Trip Planning with multiple destinations, etc.). So, all in all, despite some minor shortcomings, the Garmin 1370T seems to have been a worthwhile purchase.UPDATE: I have now used the 1370 driving around Washington, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh. I have been impressed with the traffic feature-it has accurately told me of traffic on my route on 3-4 occasions and automatically recalculated a route on 2 of those occasions. Unfortunately, I ignored the rerouting on one occasion and ended up stuck in traffic for 20 minutes, but that was "operator error." At the very least, knowing the approximate time delay of the traffic that you are caught in takes some anxiety away-I'm surprised how accurate the Garmin's estimation of the time delay has been.

    lots of issues

*by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2010*

i have owned this product for about a year and a half now. there seems to be a lot of firmware related issues with the device that becoming really annoying after a while. i paid almost double what the current price of this unit is now so my review is going to be quite a bit more critical. i have updated the software in the past 3 or 4 months.it takes forever to load. compared to a much less expensive model nuvi with fewer features that is in my work vehicle. i don't know if it has something to do with the addition of european maps or what. it can also take a minute or so to connect to the satellites on occasion. this is really irritating when you need it "right now."it loses coverage on occasion. never have that problem with the other nuvi. even in canyons in colorado that one doesn't lose reception. this model will lose reception out in the open. this doesn't happen very often, but it does happen.the traffic is a nice feature but somewhat unreliable. i do not know if this is garmin's fault as it may be an issue of cities not reporting traffic or the data not being updated soon enough. i'm not really sure how the service operates.the bluetooth speakerphone is worthless. what's the point in including it as a feature if no one can understand what you're saying and the speaker sounds like it's inside a plastic bag. a second, noise-cancelling microphone should have been standard as well as a speaker that would be able to play at levels that would allow you to hear it over road noise at highway levels. i guess if we all owned lexus's this wouldn't be an issue. another option, would have been the ability to connect to multiple devices so you could use your bluetooth headset and use the nuvi to navigate your address book and take calls.this is more of a personal issue than anything, but there just aren't enough user options available. i find this a problem on every garmin device i have used. such as when you tell it to give you the most amount of information on the map, it still doesn't show all the street names of all the streets on the map. obviously, this would be impossible at certain zoom levels, but if i'm looking at something up close, i want to know what i'm looking at. mostly, just little nit-picky things in the os that bother me this way, but it still makes for a frustrating user experience.this one really sucks: if the unit shuts down when the car turns off, and then it turns on when the car is turned on again, the volume is turned off somehow. when you go to the volume screen, it still says it is set at 70% (where i like it) and the mute box is not checked. the only way to get the volume back is to turn it up a notch and then set it back down. seriously??? haven't checked with garmin on this one but need to.i recently moved to south florida and am finding that the nuvi thinks a lot of the locations i have it navigate me to are on the wrong side of the street. pretty damn frustrating when you turn left into a parking lot only to see your destination on the other side of the street. again, not sure if this is garmin's fault or navtec's maps or what. it's not like the area i'm in is brand new or anything. not really sure what to make of this.the time it takes to calculate a route is mind-numbingly slow. this is also in comparison to the less expensive model i am familiar with. if you're sitting at a light and you don't know which way to go and you punch in a quick address to find out if you turn or go straight, and if you were to sit there and wait on it, the light would have changed to green and then back to red before the thing calculates a route. this is an exaggeration, but the cheaper model i use for work calculates routes in a few seconds, whereas this one takes maybe 20-30 seconds. doesn't sound like a big deal but it is if you need the information right then.now, having said all that, it does get me from point a to point b. i love the fact that it tells you what lane to be in and, when it's working, the traffic feature has saved me time. i picked this model because of a trip to scotland last summer and it worked there just the same as it does in the states. the bluteooth connects right away, even though it is a borderline useless feature.there is no way i would have suggested purchasing this model at the price i paid a year ago, but for the price today it would be fine (especially considering the cost of the maps alone!).
