This is my first non-Otterbox style case and I worried that it may not protect my phone as well--but I wanted some design elements on my case. A year later, my phone has survived many drops and I'm back to buy the same case in a different style because I love it so much. The material is a cushy plastic, so I think it absorbs bounces better than the hard case. I do use a glass screen protector and have to change that every four to five months due to cracks, but that was the same experience I had with other cases.
