Is this worth double the $?** A: I have been using these for well over a year now. They are carbon filters. I'm inclined to say, hey carbon is carbon. Speaking as an Engineer: You can drive yourself nuts with specs. They are very similar to the GE carbon which costs much more $$. On the flip side....I use this as a whole house filter and my drinking water runs through a Reverse Osmosis system. This whole house filter radically extends the filter life of the RO system's filters. Would I drink the water from the output of a single CP5BBS ? No. Should you ? Probably not. That doesn't make it bad. It's merely a major "stage 1" filter. You really should be using a second system for drinking water. That's my 2 cents. **Q: Is this the same as GE's FXHTC filter?** A: It is the same. Well, the Culligan has a Cartridge Life of 6 months, depending upon usage and water conditions. I purchase all from Amazon. Price is best I can find. I use only the Culligan filters in my Whole House Culligan system now. Never again will I use GE (Whirlpool) filters. I installed one in 2008. It apparently had a problem because my house lines became plugged with carbon sediment. What a disaster. Spent a long while flushing the system, cleaning faucet filters, etc. Never have I experienced a problem with Culligan filter RFC-BBSa. Outstanding. Used it for years. **Q: How do you know its a RFC-BBSA if its out of the package? That model is supposed to be good for 10,000 gallons.** A: Good question. But, why would it be out of the package, unless opened by mistake? I record changing my filter on computer calendar. I would simply shorten the time (to 3 months maximum) if the filter is out of the package. 8/4/2014 I'm editing this. RFC-BBSa is 25 microns, good for 10,000 gallons, 6 months. **Q: Is this the same size as Whirlpool WHCF-DWHBB (10" x 4.5")** A: Yes, I believe it is. I lvoe the RFC-BBSA.
