## Description

MasterShower® 3/4" 2- or 3-way transfer valve

Review: Had to return it. Wasnt what I needed
Review: This valve is quite good. Feels very solid, and with the Trim my wife picked out, it looks great. There are a few things people should know: This valve can be installed in either a 2-way or 3-way mode (caveat for 2-way mode, see below). After reading several reviews on several different websites, I thought I knew what the end result would be, but I was wrong. Hopefully the descriptions below help others figure out the different installation configurations and how they determine the end functionality. In 3-way mode, the handle spins 360+ degrees (keeps going/no stops) and with pause positions (handle clicks) every 45 degrees, for a total of 6 positions. The 6 positions are A; A+B; B; B+C; C; C+A which means you can have any of the three outputs on individually, or any pair, but not all three. The handle can be adjusted so that the stops are perfectly aligned, contrary to reports that the valve must be installed perfectly straight otherwise things will be misaligned. In 2-way mode, you have several options. 1) Follow the instructions. Sounds crazy, but definitely your best option. You need to remove an internal plug that separates output A from C which means that output A=C and C=A (see http://helptopics.us.kohler.com/link/portal/5641/5712/Article/1070/How-To-Remove-The-Plug-On-The-K-728-Transfer-Valve). You then cap-off/plug either output A or C. The instruction guide (see http://www.us.kohler.com/onlinecatalog/pdf/1145567_2.pdf) then walks you through moving a spacer from behind the detent (the large white plastic piece) to in front of it. This causes the handle to spin only 90 degrees. This results in the valve having only 3 positions: A; A+B; B and will not turn beyond those positions. 2) Follow the instructions but skip a few steps Definitely an option and how my valve ended up after my remodel was complete. In this case, you still remove the internal plug and link output A and C. But if you don't move the spacer, the valve will continue to spin 360 degrees. Since the A and C output are linked this has the following effect: A; A+B; B; B+A; A; A+A. In my case, there was 1 position were my shower head was on; 2 positions where the shower head and rain head where both on, and 3 positions where my rain head was on. Fortunately; it is easy to move the spacer after everything is installed and you can definitely flip back and forth to see if you like option 1 or option 2 better. 3) Ignore everything Several reviews indicate that you can not remove the internal plug and simply cap off one of the ports which gives you an effective off position. In my case this would have resulted in the following functionality shower; shower + rain; rain; rain; off; shower. The instructions specifically don't recommend this for risk of leaks. The output ports aren't specifically designed to be left under pressure long-term. I'm not sure why that would be, and I was willing to take a chance, so this is what I was hoping for. Unfortunately, it didn't happen and the internal plug cannot be replaced with out opening up the wall. So those are your choices. Good luck and you won't regret this valve.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Cant his be used with the k1178 diverter?**
A: If you are referring to the K-11748 Rite Temp Pressure balancing valve with diverter, the Short Answer is Yes. The K-17748 will control the shower (i.e. on and off) and set the temperature. The diverter allows you to select Shower head or Hand Shower / Tub Spout. If you want more options such as body sprays or other nozzles such as Rain shower etc, the you could also add the K728. The K728 is merely a diverter and not a shower controller. With it you can either select three outlets or two. In my install, I used a different controller without a diverter (I think I used the K-304) and capped off the tub spout. I ran the output from the controller to the K-728. I also adjusted the K728 to only have two outputs (pretty simple and laid out in the instructions), my normal shower head and a handheld. If you are looking to just have two outputs the you could probably go add it with just the K11748, however one other thing to consider is that the K728 also has a blended selection. So if you have three outputs A, B, and C, you have 6 options A- AB- B- BC- C- CA. If you go with the two output option then your choices are A-AB-B. I don't think you can run both outputs with the K11748. Sorry for the rambling but I hope that helps.

**Q: I have 2 devices to be used with a thermostatic valve and 2 volume control valves. Can this replace 2 volume control valves and shut off the water?**
A: I would check with the manufacturer website. When you select an item on Kohler's website there is optional equipment listed at the bottom. I would verify your purchases against Kohler's website. With that being said I am currently using this valve to control a hand shower and a rain overhead shower head. Hope this helps

**Q: Can i use this with the k-t10290-4-bn?**
A: There are several compatible trims, but I would suggest calling Kohler (1-800-456-4537) just to make sure.

**Q: does this value let me change water temperature at each outlet connected with the use of K-T72770?**
A: No, that is a transfer valve and trim. It only controls what item (i.e. shower head, hand held shower, body sprays, additional shower head, tub spout, etc) the water goes to.
