Not cheap plastic, like cloth but water resistant/proof. It is nice and big, and the loop is very convenient. The neck has many snaps to fit many sizes snugly, from small to very large. I have used it to bleach and then dye my daughter's hair in so far and have washed it in the washer and put through the dryer and it laundered great. Excellent cape for the price, good enough to be professional in my opinion, but I am no hair stylist. I have already bought a second because they are so cheap, so that I have one for the bleaching and one for the dying process. (That way I don't have to worry about bleach contaminating dye.) I would absolutely recommend and will buy more myself if I need anymore.
