Either way thought, you can see that as a benefit or an annoyance, personally I just set them to the corresponding sides of my desk, the plates would seem to be all inter changeable so you can still arrange the important bits the way you want hassle free, just mind the thumb prints. Color/light output is great, nice relatively smooth fade between colors or static. There is no brightness setting and the single button control can be sort of a pain to cycle through but honestly, the things that come with a tiny remote are almost more annoying to deal with for me anyway. Plus it comes with no remote.
