I found the book to be very informative, but I don't feel the book may be 100% appropriate for the layman. My partner who doesn't have a strong background in biology/environmental science found it to be academic and a chore to read. The language may be a bit thick for some audience members.I also have 15+ years experience with the hobby and a strong background in biology/environmental science. I really enjoy this type of book - its very detailed, good descriptions, great pics and diagrams - plus the information on the environment was a pleasure to read. I found it really completes the book.I won't be surprised if the book ends up on my bookshelf from his. I have a strong background in science, research and reviewing scientific literature so I really enjoy the document. Actually, it really makes me wish I had taken some ichthyology courses!! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must have book for all aquarists *by I***T on October 14, 2013* This book is complete, concise, and clear. It is full of photos and diagrams and provides all the information necessary to truly understand how to provide tropical fish with the proper environment. That is the key to avoiding stress which is often the trigger of many diseases. Since reading this book I have not had one sick fish in my 120 gallon community tank. They all appear happy and healthy. I have dozens of tropical fish books. This is my favorite. Get this book. You won't be sorry. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A book worth having *by D***R on May 27, 2014* Very detailed, a little too detailed for me. .A lot of information. The first 2 chapters gve information I'll never use. Chapter 3 gives excellent information about how to keep tank water safe and in balance [plenty of detail]. Good information in Ch 4. The rest of the book deals with recognizing sick fish [very good color pictures] and how to treat the different diseases. Very good pictures.
