You HAVE to buy the Hydor Wave Controler (and really need at least 2 pumps on either side of your tank), to create a wave effect. I just bought a 425 and it has ok flow across a 20 long tank ( but no waves). You can attach it to a regular timer if you just want to run it at certain times. That was no good for me so I ordered another higher rated pump AND the wave controller. I'll see how that works when I get it. I wanted a "shimmer" effect from my moonlights. To get this I needed to put it at the top of the tank to push the surface enough. Now I have a slight shimmer. **Q: I have a 25-30 gallon tank, which option is best?** A: I have a darter tank that has about 25 gallons of water in it. I just replaced a 500 GPH water pump with the 850 GPH circulation pump. The water pump really blasted quite a jet of water across my tank. The Hydor is much gentler, with a broader spread, but still seems to make for a nice stream simulation. While the 500 GPH was about the maximum my tank could handle, the 850 GPH circulation pump is just adequate for a stream simulation. My main reason for switching was the circulation pump only uses about 5 watts of electricity, while a 500 GPH water pump uses about 35. I'm hoping to see my water temperature drop. If you are simulating a swamp, however, I would not recommend this product at all. **Q: What voltage does it run on: 110v or 240v? Thanks** A: 110v in my house here in the US! **Q: What size and how many of these power heads should I get for 90 gallon reef** A: I had two 1400 on my 90 and it's too much, stirs the sand up. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So far, so good with this SILENT wave maker! *by K***L on November 24, 2024* First time using a wave maker. I was initially turned off by the high price of the brand recommended by YouTubers. I found this one and figured I'd give it a shot. Initially, I had some problema as it kept turning off. I took it out and it ran fine in the sink for an hour so I figured it was something to do with the tank. I may have had too much particulate matter in my tank since it was a new setup.I let the filter run for a few days and reinstalled it today. It's running great now. I'm amazed that it runs silently! It creates plenty of water movement for my 75 gallon tank, and I'm happy to not need bubblers. I'm trying for a quiet tank this time around! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for straight and simple water flow. Solid mounting system and quiet operation. *by H***Y on July 17, 2014* Great continuous flow pump that runs very quiet. I had two of these in my 40 gallon reef. Worked like champs. The magnet mounting mechanism is solid and the pumps are mounted on an adjustable peg to point in a variety of directions. I did end up replacing these with a wave maker set up but am considering bringing one of them back in for some additional movement. Nothing wrong with these pumps just wanted to add a controllable system.Bigger than say a Jebao or MP10 but you save some bucks and granted they are not wave makers. Hydor does show these as being used with their wave maker controller but I have seen that they will click every time the speed is changed. I have seen conflicting literature that these can or cannot be used with a wake maker. Even from the manufacturer literature.If you want to use them as they are designed, I can wholeheartedly recommend them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent!!! *by J***L on July 6, 2016* Now THIS is more like it!!I recently bought an all-inclusive adaptable power head/circulation pump by a well known aquarium equipment company (you can see my other reviews for who)...it was noisy & really a bust. Then I purchased the Hydor Koralia Evolution 750/850 circulation pump after seeing good reviews for it; I am really glad I did!It (unlike that "other" product) has a 'snap' together cage assembly that will not pull apart. I attached the very strong magnet on the outer wall and placed the pump against the corresponding spot in the tank. I routed the power cord at the back of the aquarium and plugged it in. Oh, oh...nothing...(or so I thought at first). There was NO sound (also unlike that "other" pump that was horrendously loud)...nothing. Well, a few plants WERE moving, so maybe. Yup, upon checking there was great water flow, it was just so QUIET!I love this circulation pump.Would I recommend this?
