Seriously, the lid must seal to keep the contents fresh so it is a chore to open. My first one lasted ten years...It does need maintenance. Once or twice a year. I make fresh coffee at least once or twice a day....nicer with this unit. While the information says it holds one half pound, it holds much more. But, it does "stress" the dispenser. I will always have this unit in my home. Maintenance is taking it apart, washing it.....letting it dry and re-assembling it. It can do much more. Thank you Amazon! **Q: (2) Questions: Can it be used for -instant coffe? And, -held over your coffee cup?** A: It would probably work.
