**Q: How specificly do these jars work as a sourdough starter jar?**
A: The fact that the mouth of the jar is larger makes it easier to add the flour and water during the "feeding" process.   It has two different lid options.  When I store in the refrigerator for a week,  I use the plastic lid.  I have shared my starter with friends and put it in these jars and use the glass lid with the clips so it is more secure on the trip to their home (I also give the plastic lid for when they store in the refrigerator).  I sent some to my daughter who is enjoying them for her sourdough starter.

A: The jars I purchased are 9cm for the opening and the height of the jar is 15cm.

Both the tulip and the straight versions of these Weck jars are absolutely made for sourdough starters. The wide mouth and lack of ridges make it perfect for scraping down the sides of the jar. They are a breeze to clean. The lid can be made airtight by using the rubber gasket and fastening it all with metal clips. It can also be used with just the glass lid, which allows for pressure to escape when fermenting a sourdough starter. There is plenty of room for your starter to grow and be happy in this 1-liter jar. The only drawback is that these jars are a bit pricy on Amazon. If you're able to get them in person, you could definitely get a better deal for your money. Thankfully, mine arrived undamaged after shipping.
