Well.. that was a waste of $..maybe not... UPDATE

First, I rarely if ever leave reviews. I received this product today it was very excited about it. I'm a film photographer and I was looking forward to having my phone be somewhat accurate light meter. This thing works, but it doesn't work correctly. It will in fact give you a reading that will be anywhere from 2 to 3 stops off. I tested it against two additional cameras and one handheld light meter. I understand that it gives you an option to calibrate but I'm still worried about accuracy and I'm going to use this in any kind of professional sense. I don't have to calibrate a normal wavemeter when I take it out of the box.UPDATE: 05AUG13: So I decided to change my rating on here from 1 star to 4 and here is why. I admit that its not as accurate as a handheld meter, but it DOES have its uses. I have a adapted polaroid 110a that has a interesting shutter (ie its not accurate).... so, being that this adaptor is somewhat accurate and is adjustable, I was able to set it to meter based on my cameras shortcomings. This at least gets me in the ball park and as long as Im metering for the shadows, its pretty consistent. I cant fault that for a $30 item. Its certainly not perfect, but it might do what I need it to do.. if it does, Ill upgrade to a 5...

    Pretty good!

I'm impressed that this little gadget does so well. I have tested it alongside a borrowed Sekonic light meter in a variety of situations and find it's usually dead on, perhaps a fraction of a stop different at most. It comes with a little microfiber bag and small lanyard (which really need to be in the product photos) so storage and keeping track of it aren't an issue. This product could be a game-changer, bringing incident light metering to the masses. I gave it 3/5 stars solely because of the construction. It's light plastic, and needs some sort of friction material to attach more securely. It works OK now, but would benefit greatly from more friction with the phone surface. If you set the iPhone down with the Luxi attached, it will likely have come loose and you have to re-seat it. Also, the construction is ABS plastic-adequate, but for $35 I would expect more durable material like Delrin or a higher density material.

    Cost effective solution.

Sometimes one is challenged photographically by a subject whose color or brightness causes the camera exposure to be set incorrectly and a resulting picture that is not satisfactory. The way around this is using an "incident" light meter which measures the light falling on the subject as opposed to being reflected from the subject as is the case with camera meters. Usually incident meters cost some significant $$ but have the ability to also measure flash exposure in studio settings. If your needs are solely for working outdoors, this is a cost effective solution. Takes some practice but worth the result if this is a common problem for you.
