Review: Work great for original 1900 picture rail - These are really sturdy and fit the picture rail in my 1900 queen Anne perfectly and I mean PERFECTLY. The only improvement I'd recommend is the hanging part. I'm hanging a few rugs with deco chain and the bottom mount is too thick for normal deco chain. It'd be nice if there were a version with a thinner lip. The existing lip is perfectly fine for hanging mirrors or picture frames as intended. I have no doubt I could rip the picture rail from the wall before these bent or broke. Very nice product.
Review: If you have picture molding, these are great. If not, don't bother. - We have a house built in the 1920s with what is known as "Picture Molding" around various rooms at top of window height. This molding (when not saturated with paint from years of idiots letting paint drip into the trough behind the molding) is perfect for these hooks which let you hang picture wire down from the hook. Made for the days of plaster walls and not wanting to put holes in those plaster walls, these are not expensive and get the job done. Highly recommended (if you have picture molding that is...)

**Q: We used pallet wood as a picture rail. Would these hooks work well even though the rail is flat, not rounded?**
A: I'm not sure if I can give you a good answer because I don't have a good mental picture of your situation. Do you have a picture rail or shiplap paneling?
Maybe if you have paneling and there is some space between the boards and you can change the top of the molding hook to be more square and so more compatible to your wood's shape.  I think the question is how malleable the metal is. Would you be able to reshape it? Because they are designed to support heavy weights I think they are very rigid and would resist reshaping. 
That's not to say you couldn't just get a pack to see if they would work in your situation.
The back of the hook is held between the picture rail and the wall and that helps with stability.

**Q: What is the depth of the top hook?**
A: The distance between the inside part of the top of the hook to the bottom of the top hook is approximately 3/4".

**Q: In part of my room the rail has been painted so much that the hook doesn’t fit. How do fix?**
A: I have a 1895 Victorian home and I hung mine on the picture rail and I had to stretch the part that fits over the moulding out a little bit to get it to fit. If that does not work maybe you could drill a hole in the hook and screw it into the moulding if it is thick enough like my moulding is. I hope it helps.

These are really sturdy and fit the picture rail in my 1900 queen Anne perfectly and I mean PERFECTLY. The only improvement I'd recommend is the hanging part. We never heard of picture rail trim until we moved into an old house, and it is a wonderful though very old invention. No need for driving nails into the wall. And placement of pictures can be easily moved by sliding the location of the hooks along the trim. Although the images look like these hooks might be easily bendable, they are actually pretty sturdy.
