Review: ER605 - Really happy with this as a home user who just wanted vLANs - I think this router is great value for only £50. Even though I had to also buy a wireless access point for ~£40 for this setup to fully replace my ISP router, it still came in much cheaper than other "prosumer" routers with built in wireless. I just wanted to segment my network into two vLANs so I could host a minecraft server from my house on an isolated vLAN and then have all my personal stuff on the other. This router has done the job perfectly. I didn't need to use an omada controller or anything additonal, the built in router management page let me do everything needed, and it was (fairly) straightforward to set up everything up. The router just plugged straight into my BT ONT box and worked, I just had to enter in my ISPs credentials which Plusnet helpfully provides on a help page. Managed to replace my ISP router entirely. The router even supports geo-blocking in the ACL rules which was a surprise to me, I was able to set up a rule to only connections to my server from UK IP addresses, great!
Review: if you want load balancing go for it, cost effective solution. - This is a very good bit of kit, well priced and the functionality is great. I was debating buying another Draytek router for the load balance facility or try this out. I have a 5G router plus an ADSL landline, I had been using my Draytek router to balance between 5G and landline. I ended up finding that the TP link unit will load balance up to 4 lines. the good part with this unit is that you can use you ISP standard equipment and plug and play no issues if one drops or if one is performing better than the other, the load balance unit will take care of it. In a nut shell if you want redundancy from multiply internet connections this will save you a lot of time and money. the Draytek unit although it can do more will cost around 6 time the cost. being able to use other providers equipment to feed into the one route also provides greater resilience.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what speed are the ethernet ports 100MBps or 1GBps?**
A: It is not 1gbps. It is 100mbps. I have the TL-R470T+ in hand and have tried it out and it is definitely 100mbps. If you have a faster than 100mbps broadband or ISP - you need a different product - try the TP-Link R600VPN instead. Ignore the product description on this page - it is wrong and I cannot get my money back as I have binned the packaging and now cannot do a return. Do not be me!

**Q: How does this handle streaming high definition video from the internet , e.g. 4k video stream.**
A: The bottom line is it really depends alot on what you are actually doing and where you are getting the video from.I don't know what you know so I will spell it out.I am assuming that you are downloading video from You tube or Amazon prime or some such service. This is assumed to be a single point to point connection for download.AFAIK 4K Video is just a larger file than non 4k video and has nothing special about it in this context other than its data density per second of film is much higher. The router provides failover and load balancing for multiple ISP's. I have two and am adding a third. These are two very different things and the load balancing aspect of this router is probably not what you might expect or would want based on my assumption. What you probably want is what is called 'channel bonding' where two or more ISP's connections are made to act as if they are one single faster connection, and will otherwise smell, feel and act as if they were one connection. This router does not channel bond. It's load balancing provides a close alternative which you must understand to get its benefits. The actual ISP connections with this router are independent and used in isolation, or not, according to the routers set balancing instructions of which ther are 4 (2 * 2) major choices plus a few other minor varations. The router figures out how to use them according to your configured wishes. Balancing shares the ports out across all of its current connections, ths making it feel like you get 10Gb + 10Gb = 20Gb bandwidth when in fact you are effectiely using 50% less connections per port.Failover is used only when a connection was active on a now failed port and the router will automatically attempts a continuation of that connection on the other port. Sometimes this is not possible, as the protocol in use at the time may not allow that to happen. Skype is one example.A single connection is allways over ONE outgoing port route, or another, never over two or more. So as there is no channel bonding you cannot get an download speed advantege from this router, unless your video download is via some sort of torrent like service where parts of the feed come from several different remote addresses, each requiring additional connections for that sub part of the file, will you get any added bandwidth advantage at all. It can do that, and does it very well. This router is not all things to all men, but its the closest thing to heaven for my needs and now I understand how it behaves I have enough control and flexibility for most scenarios.

**Q: i bought this, could anyone please give me a step by step instructions for setting it up with two 4g lte sim card routers.**
A: You need to download the manual from the TP-Link website as it shows the various protocols for connections

**Q: Is the connection failover on this?**
A: Yes, in a way. To failover, we setup 99% balance main connection, 1% balance on the backup connection, so both are connected at once. Then, if the main connection fails, all usage goes to the backup connection.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Seems to load balance fine...
*by R***P on 13 May 2022*

It seems to work well. It does get a little high on CPU on occasion. It lacks stats to show which connection is being used. But is super easy to setup, and seems to work well.
