How come these lasts for hours?** A: There are different grades of light sticks for different uses. The 30 min you saw where rated as High Intensity, those last for approximately 30-45 minutes at the maximum output. There is also an Ultra-High Intensity version which lasts for only a few minutes. Those are rated for 5 minutes of maximum output. They either put in a catalyst to speed up the reaction in the high intensity sticks or an inhibitor in the longer time sticks. The longer the time on the stick, the less light output. I hope that helps. **Q: I understand the use for all the colors but blue. What are these for?** A: Blood shows up under blue light better. **Q: Do these have an expiration date? I'm thinking of putting them in my disaster kit.** A: Yes they do. The packs I bought early 2015 have the expiration date of 11/19 so they last over four years at least. They work great.
