The Linksys LRT series integrates Gigabit firewall, site-to-site VPN, and various remote access VPN technologies into a single box. With two models to choose from, Linksys Gigabit VPN Routers provide secure and reliable network service for employees whether they're at the office or on the road.

Review: Great gigabit router w/ Firewall & VPN support, no wifi - Web page interface for easy setup, but yet a very sophisticated device. There are no wifi radios here, strictly a wired gigabit device (which I prefer). There is support for vlan tagging of packets, QoS shaping of traffic, openVPN, and much more. Full manuals and some example setups are available on line. Firmware update was easy and available though support pages. No fan motor in the metal box, device runs just a touch warmer than room temp (a good thing).
Review: Excellent Ethernet Router for home use - Telephone support from Linksys for setup was first rate. High speed throughput is great. After it was set up, it's been "Plug & Play" ever since. No issues. I can't say the same for the WiFi router which preceded it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

**Q: I am looking to sign up for vpn service. will this device connect to this vpn service directly, and will i be able to vpn into my current network?**
A: You're mixing several modes of VPN use.  The LRT214 allows you to connect one home or small office to another home or small office via a point-to-point VPN.  For instance, I have a condo in Singapore and a house in Massachusetts and I use this device so that I can connect my 2 networks together and sync files from one location to the other.  It also allows you to set up your own VPN service on the LRT214 so that you can connect into your home from your laptop or tablet when you're traveling around the world.  For this, you don't need a VPN service: in some ways you become your own VPN service as long as your home/office has a publicly-available IP address (depends on the ISP, most support it or require a "business Internet connection".  A VPN service setup like you're asking about wouldn't work since it doesn't connect the 2 parts together, it just connects them individually to the Internet.  They're used to keep your ISP from eavesdropping on your Internet browsing or to evade Internet filtering (country block lists) or licensing restrictions on streaming video or other content.

**Q: Is this unit configurable through a local web-based gui or is it command-line based?**
A: GUI

**Q: Does this router have wifi capability?**
A: No. It is a hardwired unit only. I had my LRT214 hooked up to a separate wifi router that I set to bridge mode. This way, I could use my dual WAN with wireless devices.

**Q: would i use this between my managed switch and my router? please let me know. thanks**
A: between your switch and your modem. Because this provides VPN access to the WAN, it needs direct access to the WAN. This could actually replace your router unless your router has the modem in it. In that case you would set this up in your routers DMZ

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A solid router/firewall

I like the Open VPN feature and the set up is simple. The EasyLink VPN setup to another LRT214 super silly easy. It has all the features I expected, works well and was easy to set up. It’s not perfect. The web interface takes some getting used to, and seems to require an extra click to save changes. The form factor is not my fav, Ethernet ports on the other side of the box from the corresponding status lights, and the power plug is in on the side. Largest LAN subnet is 255.255.255.0 (not really a big deal but I needed to rethink my IP assignment thinking).
