## Description

Product Description Flat Fox Premium Emulsion and Diazo Sensitizer Universally resistant, Dual-Cure, high quality direct emulsion Used by screen printers of plastisol, water based and discharge inks to print onto garments, jute bags, wallpapers and fine arts. This emulsion reclaims well, gives a fantastic screen stencil and has excellent print durability. Ideal for small studios using manual equipment and educational establishments. Mixing Sensitizer Flat Fox Emulsion comes as a two part, dual cure emulsion and has a sachet of diazo sensitizer. When mixing, please shake the sachet well and wearing gloves, hold the sachet close to the emulsion and empty in, all of the diazo. Mix together well until you see a complete colour change. Leave to stand for at least two hours before using. The sensitizer is added neat, no water. Shelf Life Pre-Sensitized up to 12 months, Sensitized 3-4 weeks. Exposure Instructions Guide is included A scoop coater is recommended for applying emulsion make sure emulsion is dry before exposure Thick coatings of emulsion will not dry well light source must emit UV light weak bulbs will result in underexposure and emulsion washing off Emulsion will wash off if Exposure time is too short Mixing Diazo Sensitizer Diazo before the Diazo Sensitizer is added Diazo Sensitizer powder is poured into the emulsion Mixing the Emulsion and Diazo Sensitizer Emulsion is now mixed and the colour has changed Scoop Coater filled with Emulsion We recommend using a scoop coater to apply the emulsion so that you can get an even coating that is not too thick. Thick emulsion will not dry easily. Removing excess emulsion from the screen after coating is best, the mesh will only hold a certain amount. A scoop coater is a very good investment and will help you get better results. Put enough emulsion into the scoop coater to coat the whole screen. Start with the side of the screen that will go onto the fabric you are printing onto, hold the screen vertically and tilt the screen at an angle, tilt the scoop coater towards the mesh, it will pool against the mesh, pull the scoop coater upwards and coat the mesh. Do this to the other side of the screen. Once both sides are coated pull the coater along the screen again and scoop off excess emulsion. The final side that you scoop emulsion off should be the side that gets the ink, this way you push emulsion towards the print side of the mesh. Drying coated screens Once coated, your screens need to dry flat in a dark, dust free, warm place. Away from light - The mixed emulsion will be light sensitive so it needs to dry in a dark room or cupboard. Temperature - room temperature or slightly warmer is ideal. Dust and dirt - Make sure the area you are coating and drying your screen in is free from dirt/dust/hairs Humidity - If a coated screen has been left to dry in a humid environment, it can cause you problems later on. A de-humidifier is ideal to avoid this happening. Place your screens flat to dry, print side down. If you have coated several screens, you can use spacers to stack them flat on top of one another Drying time - I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to make sure that your screens are completely dry before exposing. Signs of the emulsion not being dried for long enough - if after exposure the emulsion is soft, rubbery or pulls off the screen, this is a sign of the emulsion not having dried enough before exposure. Examples of lights and times that customers have given that worked for them - this is a guide and you need to test your own setup. 100W UV LED Floodlight Distance from screen : 40cm Exposure time : 10 minutes 25W UV Bulb Distance from screen : 36cm Exposure time : 15 minutes 500W Halogen Floodlight Distance from screen : 50cm Exposure time : 12 minutes The Sun Direct Sunlight Time - 90 seconds Underexposure Emulsion washes off your screen Most common causes of underexposure are either using a light source which emits too little UV or emulsion that has not been exposed for long enough. Emulsion must be completely dry Using a scoop coater helps prevent thick coatings of emulsion. Thick emulsion will take longer to dry and will also take longer to expose. Meshcount Meshcount affects exposure time. A 43T mesh is coarser than a finer 90T mesh and therefore will hold more emulsion and will need a little longer to expose. Good Exposures - some tips Use a light that emits UV Exposure time is long enough Emulsion is completely dry before exposure Positives are good quality Get in contact with us if you have any problems or need any help. Step Tests - best way to work out your perfect exposure time ! A step test will help work out the right time for exposure for your setup. 1. Estimate the screen exposure time 2: Double the screen exposure time estimated in step 1 3: Divide the total number you now have by 10 4: Cover all apart from row 1 with some cardboard or something completely opaque Expose the screen with only row 1 exposed to the light for the amount of seconds you calculated in step 3 Move the cardboard down after the first exposure to allow row 1 and 2 to be exposed and expose for the same amount of time as calculated in step 3 Move the cardboard down one row at a time and expose the screen for the number of seconds calculated in step 3 until you have done all 10 rows. When your exposure is finished you can wash out your screen and see which row cleans out and prints the best. Keep the screen wet and look at the colour of the emulsion. When you see the point that the colour change stays the same, you have found your perfect screen exposure time.

Review: Screen printing emulsion - .I don't usually ut I wanted to share my experience. Despite reading some of the negative comments, I decided to try this emulsion and it has worked amazingly well for me! There is a really useful guide included with the emulsion which also recommends that you read their blog on exposure ( I did and found both really helpful!). I realised I needed to invest in a proper UV light , which I did. Using this and the guide provided on exposure times/setup it all worked perfectly. Figuring out photographic exposure is not easy with so many things that can affect results. Flat Fox has really included as much information as possible to make this process easier and it's worth taking some time to read through it. I honestly think that if this emulsion didn't work for you, you're most likely using the wrong light or exposure time.
Review: Absolutely brilliant emulsion- will be using this from - Brilliant stuff, so much better than other brands. Went on so easily without dripping and coated so evenly. I used a squeegee too instead of a the proper equipment and it still turned out perfect. The owner is great and more than willing to help with anything. Lots of process videos and advice available on instagram. Bought inks too and they’re just as good! Will be buying from them from now on

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Once mixed how long can you keep and use this for?**
A: Once the diazo has been mixed into the emulsion, it has a shelf life of at least 3-4 weeks depending on the conditions it is stored in.

**Q: You do not state the conditions for 3-4 weeks self life. What are they so that I can max it out...?**
A: Once the diazo is added the emulsion is light sensitive so opening it and using it in a dim room will help, if you have a Litre you can decant 250ml into a smaller container and use that so that the whole tub doesn't keep getting exposed to light and air. Then keep topping it up. Also keeping it at a constant cool temperature will help the emulsion last longer - some people say keeping in a fridge helps but this makes the emulsion thicker and more difficult to use and I haven't found the shelf life to be greatly increased. Do not keep it in temperatures over 77 degrees fahrenheit (25 degrees celcius). For a longer shelf life (up to a year from manufacture) you could try the Flat Fox photopolymer emulsion.
