The 7-pin plug that comes with this model tongue jack uses the Tow vehicle's electrical protection (typically a 20a or 30a fuse), and hence it is not built in to the jack design itself. So Yes you can connect to your trailer battery, but you'll need to install a home made pig tail wired into the trailer battery. It will consist of 1: 7-pin female receptacle 2: a 30a fuse on the 12v+ side for electrical protection. This would allow you to use either the tow vehicle or the trailer battery. This is the option I prefer. Typically Black or Red wire is used on the 12v+ side and white wire is used in the 12v- going to the battery. Here's a good video to watch to get an idea of how to install. These models typically come with a 30a inline fuse, and/or a 30a resettable breaker (possibly both). These models often come with only 1 wire for the 12v+ and uses the trailers frame for the ground connection. The models that come with the 7 pin plugs to use the Tow vehicle have 2 wires. The 12v+ wire is typically connected to pin# 3 (tow vehicle's running lights - requires lights on in order for jack to work - often only has 20a fuse, which is not enough imo). It could also be connected to pin #4 (which is the AUX 12v+ charging circuit. I'm not sure what the fuse protection is on that... hopefully it's 30a). The ground (12v-) is usually on pin# 1.
