whole walnut preserve (варенье из грецких орехов) from Georgia

I once tried walnut preserve made locally when I was a child. 20 years later, we were passing by a walnut orchard on my way to take the MCAT and was reminded of the incredible taste of this preserve. This product is no exception. It taste just like the one I tried 20 years ago – Yes, I still remember the taste. The juice tastes like maple syrup and can be used on pancakes as well. I just wish the shipping cost wasn't too high, although the item is reasonably priced.

I have purchased these walnut preserves before and they were really good. They are made out of unripe walnuts (picked before the shell starts to form in the green outer layer), then preserved in a sugar syrup. They are firm but chewable. The last jar I bought was impossible to chew. The walnuts were too mature when preserved and had the shell already forming inside the green outer shell. Eating preserved walnut shells is just about as bad as it sounds. I'll have to try another brand.

Walnuts are in just about every Georgian dish. So I knew I'd love this preserve, but I didn't expect WHOLE WALNUTS in it! What an incredible flavor treat. It's very sweet, with a thick syrup texture. Until you find a whole walnut, and the nut flavor becomes more intense. Wholeheartedly recommended!

What can I say, this is a PRODUCT I absolutely love and use often, was glad to find it on amazon in the event I have an emergency and cant find it at my local russian market. Unlike the pickled kind that are always tart this one is just sweet and great on salads and strong cheeses - the packaging was SO GOOD, rarely do I get this good of packaging on Amazon. The lid wasn’t banged around so it was still air sealed, I think it came from 3rd party.I have only removed 2 stars because these are TOO hard and unripened. Although they are supposed to be picked while the walnut is green these are CLEARLY premature leaving a green gritty taste and fee in your mouth. Shame. Syrup its packed in is good.I find this doesn’t happen with the Croatian or British brands. There is also a French brand manufacturing them that are UNBELIEVABLY good but expensive.That is why I removed a second star, because of they are $4-5 less a jar at any local russian market. That’s quite the mark-up, glad I only needed to order one !

The walnuts are all whole and HARD!Not cooked enough or aged enough....

Very, very good quality. Some walnuts were little bit overripe for such type of jelly and the peel was hard, what is why some nuts had to be thrown out. But syrup was delicious and most walnuts were soft and tasty. Will buy it again.

I grew up in Caucasus region.And I know how real walnut jam should taste. Unfortunately in purchased product some nuts were too ripen and hard. Taste was not the best either...I think it is the same situation for all factory made products...

Whole walnut preserve is the best! Outstanding (excellent) taste. It's really worth a try👍
