I still wonder how it works. The color is uniform along the entire length of the wire (actually plastic tubing) not bright and dim like the LED string lights. However, they are not as bright as LED's and are best for low light areas or darkness.They make great accent lights for decorating and one can wear them as part of a costume. As long as the bend is not too radical, one could form letters with them. I did not hear the sound others mention but my daughter did. I have no complaints about the battery box and suggest those who have problems try positioning a small piece of aluminum foil to bridge any gaps in the contacts. I was a little leery about buying one because of the negative comments in some reviews. I didn't know what EL Wire is and thought maybe it was just junk. I was so delighted and surprised when it arrived. Review: 4 years and still working - I bought this for a Halloween costume 4 years ago. It still lights up with a good set of batteries. Nevertheless, It is a very nice item, I wired it (PCB included ) to the 5v line of one of the USB ports of my computer and having it running 24/7 .
