## Description

Product Description When Danger Unfolds, It Does Too.The Hissatsu Folder was designed by James Williams, of Encinitas, CA for times when a military special operations or security professional are in environments where they need to be discreet to ensure their own safety. Firing off loud firearms or carrying large blades while performing high-risk duties isn’t always an option. Now there is an alternative: the Hissatsu Folder. This tactical folding knife can be concealed in a pocket or clipped comfortably under a jacket, and later be deployed for a whole lot of defensive power. The blade shape is a classical Samurai clip point design that gives outstanding penetrating power as well as exceptional slashing performance. It features a premium AUS 8 stainless steel blade for optimal strength and edge-holding ability with good corrosion resistance. Meanwhile, a non-reflective black coating helps it keep a low profile during dark conditions. With a blade length of 3.875” it’s safely under the legal limit in most jurisdictions, but it goes way over on performance. Like you, the knife is ready to spring into mission mode with our patented Outburst spring assisted opening mechanism. Then it locks automatically into the open position courtesy of our automated liner safety. This is the locking liner safety innovation taken to the next level. The automated liner safety sets a pin between the locking liner and the frame. This pin acts as an additional layer of safety, so the locking liner is less likely to disengage during use. To close the knife, pull the red buttoned safety lever back, slide the locking liner over, and fold the blade into the closed position. Want one of the most secure safety systems on the market? The choice is automatic. Something good to keep in mind when you have the bad guys breathing down your neck, face or wherever they’re a bit too close. To meet jurisdictional regulations, the Outburst spring mechanism can be easily disabled with a single set screw. The handle has a few tricks up its heavy-duty sleeve too with a beefy InterFrame build with stainless steel liners that locks on one side and black glass-reinforced nylon scales that are textured to provide a secure grip. A thumb disk allows rapid opening with either hand, and the custom black stainless steel clip can be quickly and easily mounted right or left-handed with a single screw, yielding a knife that is truly ambidextrous. This is a tactical folder for the professional that’s overbuilt to last a lifetime. If only the same could be said for the enemies of freedom.Specifications:Blade Length: 3.875" (98.43 mm)Edge: PlainSteel: AUS 8Blade Finish: Corrosion Resistant CoatingBlade Thickness: 0.16" (4.06 mm)Grind: FlatClosed Length: 5" (127.0 mm)Open Length: 8.75" (222.25 mm)Weight: 5.8 oz (164.43g)Handle: Glass Reinforced NylonStyle: Folding Knife with Locking Liner From the Manufacturer 2903 Hissatsu Folder made by Columbia River Knife and Tool features a 3.875-Inch blade made from AUS 8 stainless steel that is finished with a non-reflective black coating. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this knife have a chisel grind? How easy is it to sharpen? What sharpening system works best for you with this knife?**
A: It's a dual flat 1/2 grind at about 17-20 degrees per side. A chisel grind, which some Japanese makers use, is only ground on one side and the other is flat. This is ground on both sides, and is pretty easy to sharpen. The first grind has a slight recurve, but not enough to make it difficult. The other grind is a long, slightly arcing belly that ends at the tip. I use a basic, cheap Lansky sharpener with the coarse, medium, and fine stones, the Lansky Standard sharpening 'system' that comes with a clamp and bevel guides that make it more or less impossible to screw up. There are much better ones, like the Wicked Edge sharpening kits, and Lansky sells other sets with a better variety and quality of stones. AUS-8 steel is pretty mediocre steel, but it takes a pretty good edge. I've heard edge retention is a problem, but I haven't used it enough to tell. The blade comes out of the box fairly sharp. I notice other people have had their knives show up dull; consistency is obviously an issue. I've sharpened other AUS-8 knives, and the profile is pretty simple for sharpening, but for a really sharp edge at a reasonable price, Spyderco's lightweight VG-10 Japanese models, like the 'Endura', 'Police', or 'Matriarch', are good options, albeit without the assisted opening.

**Q: how come there so many reviewers having problems with the outburst mechanism?**
A: I've had no problems with the opening system, and I have fairly large hands; the motion to engage the 'outburst' system is not the instinctive push away from the handle, but more of an upward, diagonal one. From some of the other comments I've read, however, it sounds like there is a problem with the hardware, not the technique. It's a pretty stiff mechanism, and there is a lot of force generated by the torsion bar, but it should never take two hands to open or close this knife, unless you have sausage fingers. Loosening the pivot screw by 30 degrees (or 5 minutes/seconds) with a T8 torx bit often helps, just don't loosen it to the point where blade-play starts (where the blade has side-to-side/up-and-down movement in the locked position).

**Q: does this one function like a switchblade?**
A: Yes it is a very reliable switchblade. With a little practice all you need is your thumb to Open fully and quickly

**Q: Can the pocket clip be switched sides?**
A: Yes, it can, but I haven't tried it. The pocket clip fits into a slightly recessed half-elliptical shape that matches the head of the clip perfectly, so it's flush with the surface. On the opposite side of the knife, there is an identical recess, with a screw that is used to loosen and tighten the clip when you want to switch it, using a hexagonal Allen-wrench, since the screw head affixing the clip side is completely smooth, likely a threaded female socket that the hex-head screw tightens into. I'd try it, but I'm 99.999% certain and I'm too lazy to go looking for my allen wrenches.
