## Description

UNCAGED ERGONOMICS ERGONOMIC UNDER-DESK COMPUTER KEYBOARD TRAY WITH NEGATIVE TILT

Review: Better than I expected - I had my doubts with this product but because I'm a disabled individual and spend most my day in a recliner in front of my computer, this has given me the extra read needed to pull out and put away my keyboard. It's very sturdy. Nothing is completely perfect.. So here are my gripes. The underside of the keyboard arm is rigid vertical slats instead of a smooth horizonal surface. This makes it dig into the lap when trying to bring the keyboard all the way down to lap level. I have resorted to leaving it just above the lap in mid air, but the bulky underside still hits my knees when pushing back under the desk. The mouse arm is a bit too heavy. This causes the keyboard to tilt toward the mouse when your hand is resting on the mouse. It's a slight tilt, but noticeable. There needs to be a counter weight on the opposite side that offsets the weight of the mouse and hand. There are mounting holes on both sides so it can be used by either handed individuals. So it would be a simple matter to attach a counter wait on the opposite side to offset the tilt. The keyboard mount point is also fixed in place and doesn't rotate itself. The product only rotates on the back end of the armature, which very useful. However, adding support for turning the keyboard at the keyboard mount point would go along way to making this item near perfect for my needs. All in all, a very satisfied customer and I have recommended it to others.
Review: A very good choice! - I purchased this as an open box. In spite of it stating it may be missing parts, it had them all. Very happy about that. The install was quick and easy. Tools used: 10mm wrench and a 10mm socket and ratchet, or cordless drill, a Phillips head screwdriver, a small 1/8th inch drill bit to make pilot holes for the screws, and lastly double-sided tape. To start, I removed two of the screws from the main body on one end. This allowed me to remove the sliding section and support mechanism. The reason for that is to make installing it more accessible. Next, I disassembled the sliding mechanism to make the task of attaching the support to the keyboard tray easier, too. I then reassembled the sliding tray and adjusting the mechanism with the attached keyboard tray. Be sure not to lose any of the clear washers. There are six of them in all. After carefully putting all the parts back together, I tested it to be sure I had it set up correctly. Note: I screwed up and had to undo and reattach it. I failed to get the two slotted arms in place. The next thing I did was to attach the mouse tray attachment to the keyboard tray. You may have noticed in other reviews that the holes are not properly aligned. This is true. I had to use a small file to give me the necessary room to get the screw to fit properly. It didn't take much work. I took out less than a millimeter of material. Once that was done, I inserted both screws and tightened them down starting with the one in the hole I did not modify. This ensured that one of them would fully seat itself. The other one I tightened as much as possible and it is rock steady. To mount the body under my desk, I used the two-sided tape to hold it in place. Then, I drilled the pilot holes. Once the pilot holes were drilled (they only need to be a couple of mm deep), I firmly attached it with all eight screws. This baby is not coming off! The next part was the most difficult. The sliding mechanism is made up of two pieces of purpose formed plastic attached to each side of the main mechanism. It is a tight fit and took a bit of effort to get it in place. Once that was done, I took the two short bolts and the plastic pieces that I initially removed, and put them back in place. Lastly, I attached the mouse tray. There is one knob-wheel to adjust the left and right position of the mouse tray. This one works just fine. The one on the tray itself to hold it from rocking back and forth, once you have it where you want is a joke. It holds but not really well. I'm going to see about adding a lever to it for better torque. The images are there to show the parts and the position of various items and where they belong. The video is to show the whole once it was installed. I am very happy with this product, in spite of the two little issues of needing to expand the mounting hole and the inability of the mouse tray to be more firmly tightened. I would highly suggest this to anyone looking for one of these. The price is good and it is solid enough. Of course, it helps if the person installing it is handy with tools and making minor modifications.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How much space under the desk and how thick does the desk need to be to mount this?**
A: I'm not sure exactly what you mean by how much space is needed. Check product dimensions for the size of the keyboard tray and mouse panel. The mounting rail is about 5.5x16" (although you can cut it if you need less depth...altering the product does void the return potential). The provided mounting screws generally require at least 3/4" desktop or thicker. If you have a thinner desktop, you can always pick up shorter screws at any hardware store.

**Q: Is this keyboard tray spring loaded?**
A: KT1 is not spring loaded! There is 1 simple point of adjustment that lets you position keyboards in the optimal position for you. KT 1 lets you:1. Change Keyboard Height (from about 4.5" below desk level to desk-height)2. Change Typing Angle (type with a neutral or negative wrist angle)3. Slide the keyboard in & out (easy storage when not in use)4. Swivel left and right5. Mouse pad adjusts independently from the keyboard tray6. Mouse pad connects to right & left sides.KT1 includes an adhesive mouse pad cover plus rubber, non-skid strips to keep keyboards in place.

**Q: Does Logitech 350 keyboard fit**
A: KT1's keyboard tray is approximately 18.5" (wide) by 8.75" (deep). We designed KT1 to accommodate most keyboards. We always encourage customers to measure their keyboards to ensure compatibility. Googling "Logitech 350 keyboard dimensions" reveals dimensions for the K350 about 16.54" wide by 9.84" deep. Width-wise, it's fine. Depth-wise it will extend off the platform about an inch ... generally, it's OK for a keyboard to extend off KT1's panel a little, but it ultimately depends on personal preference and how heavy-handed you type.Uncaged Ergonomics takes pride in the products we design and are grateful for your interest in our KT1. Feel free to contact us directly if you have any additional questions :-)

**Q: is this sturdy or does it wobble when you type//**
A: It's not as sturdy as if your keyboard is on the desk itself, but the movement you get feels natural; I would not consider it "wobbly". The only modification I've made to it is adding another layer of non-slip material (that slightly tacky, honey-combed material that you line drawers with) to the keyboard surface, the two pads that are there allow more slipping than I like, but otherwise, I have been very happy with it and would buy it again.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Be very very very careful mounting the mouse tray to the keyboard tray.
*by I***Y on August 29, 2018*

The directions say to connect the mouse tray to the keyboard tray using 2 screws and two nuts. Wrong. The adjustment mechanism for the mouse tray is threaded - very badly - and the screws are not beveled properly. You must take GREAT CARE to not cross-thread the screws, and they really want to cross-thread. I would have re-tapped the holes in the mouse tray adjustment mechanism if I had that size tap. I would have used my own screws if I had that size screw. Alas. Just be careful. Very careful. When a screw starts to wander, stop, back it out, begin again. This product could easily have gotten 4 stars from me were it not for these shoddy screws. The vendor must hate these crews too, because they give you some extras, and matching washers that serve no purpose. Uncaged Ergonomics could easily put themselves out of business, selling this for $87 and providing screws that are worth paying me $85 to use. Really, I almost gave this two stars, it's that bad. Also, Phillips screws? In the 21st century?? Torx and a bit are what you provide with an $87 keyboard tray. They can't be stripped as easily. Other than that, this is easy to assemble and install. The platforms for mouse and keyboard are strong without being bulky or obtrusive. I mounted the mouse tray on the left without any problems aside from those miserable cheap screws. The usability is excellent. The only adjustment not available is lateral pitch which wouldn't be useful. The mouse tray is separately adjustable from the keyboard tray, both in forward-back angle and separation from the keyboard platform. The pair are adjustable in height and yaw, and can be slid completely beneath the desk surface. I set the back of the mounting plate 18 inches back from the edge of the desk: perfect. You'll want to test and measure your configuration. A decent quality mouse pad is provided for the mouse tray, and the keyboard is retained by friction via two sponge rubber strips. This mechanism comes with no wrist rests or pads, so consider the expense of those when purchasing.
