Review: excellent little cleaner - We use a carpet cleaner several times a week, thanks to having 3 occasionally messy cats. For years we've used a large stand-up cleaner with a wand attachment, but it was so noisy, bulky, and difficult that we really needed something smaller. After reading reviews we chose this cleaner, and I am glad we did! My main concern was that the smaller cleaner wouldn't do as good of a job as the large stand-up we have, but it is just as good, no question. It has excellent suction and the brush it comes with really works. For normal cat spots on the carpet it's just fine. It hasn't worked well on tomato sauce or really liquidy cat spots (yuck), but I have to tell you the stand-up unit didn't work on those spots either! You'll need to use some cleaner that soaks overnight and elbow grease for the really tricky stains. It's better than the stand-up cleaner because it's much easier to clean out when we're done -- our large unit gets all kinds of nasty inside the tank and there's no way to take it apart to clean it. Yuck! The Bissell however can easily be cleaned out using running water, and the brush is detachable and cleans up well. The Bissell is also better than the stand-up unit with a wand because it is smaller, less noisy, and there is no cord to get in the way. The charge lasts a good long time. Just last night we used it for nearly 15 minutes with hardly any loss of power. We don't exactly use it the way the instructions say, though, so I feel for accuracy I should explain what we do: We use the cleaner (and we really like the Little Green it came with) in a spray bottle, diluted per instructions. We fill the tank on the back with hot water only. We then spray the spot on the carpet with hot water from the SpotLifter, spray with the diluted cleaner, let sit for a minute, then then use the Bissell SpotLifter to spray hot water on it again and suck up the solution from the carpet. It works great! My only complaints (if you could call them that) are that the return tank doesn't hold much, and when it gets too full it sometimes splashes out some of the dirty water from the side vents. Once you realize that's what's going on you can control it, but it is a little annoying. Also, the spray from the tank occasionally gets blocked by bubbles or something and it won't spray when you first start the machine. This is one of the best products we've purchased in a long time. I highly recommend it. Update: As of March, 2011, we're still using this cleaner and it still works well. After 2 years of use, the tank is pretty dirty inside and it's difficult to clean. I've soaked it in hot water with bleach and with detergent, but there is still grime collecting in the harder to reach spots in the tank. The best way to get rid of these spots is to get a little hot water in there and tilt the tank until the water sits on those grimy spots, then shake vigorously. It knocks some of it loose. So far the battery is still working, although it does not hold a charge as long as it used to, which is understandable. I've found running the battery down (but not all the way) helps in the charge. For the price, this has been a terrific purchase.
Review: Great buy - Bought it because I have an 8 week old puppy, and it's been worth its weight in gold. The water it pulls up is disgusting and brown, and these carpets are so ancient and dirt-trapping (not to mention they've had a prior dog that soiled inside regularly,) it's taking multiple passes to come clean. But unless you have ancient carpet in a leased house, it does the charm perfectly (we have new carpet in the rooms, and this thing finishes the job in one or two passes tops) Suction is great, the floor is left with a dampness on par with a real floor cleaner, and its size is compact enough to fill the job described very well. It has murdered old feces stains over a year old from the previous tenant's dog, and the only complaint I have about this is that it leaves spots that were filthy looking cleaner than the rest of the carpet! I'm going to have to eventually do my entire house with this little bugger. I do somewhat wish it was corded, however, because 7 minutes of time is just not really worth it for a 12 hour charge. I'd prefer to have a little more time to make multiple passes and ensure a good cleaning. The only cons are it doesn't hold much cleaning fluid at all, and the resevoir is also small. But if all you're doing is making two or three passes over a single spot, it's perfectly adequate. As for removing the tank, it's quite easy. The button is initially hard to press, but I do like that feeling of "it won't come loose anytime soon." Also, putting it back in is a snap. I don't know how anyone can complain about this. Sure, it doesn't have runway lights and a little man flagging your approach, but just set the bottom lip inside and click it in. It's not rocket science. Anyone who got it spitting fluid out of the motor fans was grossly overfilling it. The tank has a FILL LINE, and it's a bit bigger than the fluid resevoir (allowing you to pre-treat with fluid outside of the built-in method.) So sure, if you try to refill the storage tank without emptying the dirty water tank, you'll get water spit out. Boo-hoo for people who use appliances improperly. I'm knocking off a star because I just feel like it would do an even better job if it had the option of a cord, or corded model, as well as cordless. All the other corded models are twice as expensive, too. If it was corded, it could possible integrate a brush, as well. As it stands, the brush has to be removed and used by hand, but it's very easily popped in and off, and stays secure. And somehow it just feels like it could do better on the battery life. A few usage tips: it does come with fluid, so you aren't REQUIRED to buy some (I bought some pet specific bissel concentrate that works amazingly well) and make sure you pre-treat the area (It says to pre-treat by turning it on and using the spray button, but I find this to be too big a risk on the battery life. I just used the suggested ratios of the machine's cleaning fluid and water in a spray bottle and simply use that first) and give it a very light scrub with the brush to knock soil loose. Then make sure you press the machine into the spot very firmly as you move it across the carpet, if you want the best suction (remember, it doesn't have the bulk of a large room cleaner already, it needs some help from you) I'd also suggest against storing fluid in it. You'll get much better results filling it when you need it with hot water and concentrate. Cold water cleaning is just not as effective. But overall, If you have kids, or light carpet that stains easily, or pets (even older pets track mud in once in a while) then this little machine makes mincemeat of small jobs that would otherwise take a long time to deal with, without breaking your back. All in all, if you're on a budget (like me) then this little guy performs valiantly and will save you hours. But if you do have the disposable income, I'd suggest one of the $100-$150 corded spot cleaners, because they will do the job in a little more refined manner. This machine is worth every penny they ask for it, but it is missing just a few small points of refinement that would make it an undisputed champion among household cleaning tools.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does the Bissell Spotlifer work on pet urine?**
A: Works great. Be sure to use an enzyme cleaner with it so that the pet does not reuse the same spot. Add some to the tank with water. Blot the spot first and then spray with enzyme mixture and vacuum it up with the Spotlifter. Don't know what I'd do without it.

**Q: can you use it to clean upolstery**
A: You certainly can. I like this spot cleaner well enough, but it doesn't have the greatest suction. It's fine, if you don't mind letting things air dry, but if you do anticipate doing even a moderate amount of carpet cleaning, I would suggest this full-sized cleaner: http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-SteamVac-Carpet-Cleaner-F5914-900/dp/B00009R66F/ref=sr_1_1?s=appliances&ie=UTF8&qid=1379363374&sr=1-1&keywords=carpet+cleaner

**Q: How many amps and volts is the charging cord**
A: I am trying to determine this. I have a box of adapters but I am not sure which one it is. As best I can tell (via googling) it is 9.6 volts and the tip is positive. Can anyone confirm?

**Q: Can it be used to clean furniture too ?**
A: To be honest I have not tried it on furniture. I would think it would. I find it most useful right after a spill as is sucks up the liquid before it sinks it....even before using the cleaning fluid function. I would think that it would work the same on furniture

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great little spotlifter
*by J***E on July 26, 2012*

I purchased the Bissell Spotlifter because we have a new puppy. I had owned the old model about ten years ago (with another new puppy and a kitty who hacked up hairballs). The old one finally quit taking a charge, so I ordered this one. So far, I am very pleased with the unit. It has been a lifesaver as we are going though all the "oops" moments of house training our puppy..and there have been quite a few "oopses", unfortunately. My husband recently dumped a good amount of orange drink on the carpet. Rather than dragout our big Bissell, I tried using this cordless handheld..it worked like a charm. I sucked up as much of the spill as I could before hitting the spot a second time. For the second pass, I sprayed on the cleaning solution, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then sucked it up. You absolutely cannot tell that anything was ever spilled in that spot. The solution tank is easy to fill, with a line marked for the amount of solution (a small bottle of solution comes in the package). Then you just add water up to the fill line and drop back onto the top of the unit. It seems to have a longer lasting charge than my old machine, and I haven't run out of power while using (but also haven't cleaned large areas of carpet). There is a small removable brush located in the base of the unit that can be used to work the cleaning solution in..when done, simply rinse the brush and snap back into the storage slot. Learning to dump the dirty water was a bit challenging, as you have to snap off a plastic piece in front of the unit, then turn a little knob and remove the knob to drain. I finally figured out to hold the dirty water storage section right at the edge of the sink, hold down the release button and pull out. This part could have been designed a little better, but at least the dirty water tank is always on securely. Overall, I'm very happy with this product. It has been a lifesaver during housetraining, but I know I will continue to use after the housetraining is over (if that ever happens..ha!).
