Prior tripods that I have used were just big enough to accommodate for my iPhone and the legs would not hold up with much stability....UNTIL NOW.When I opened the box, my first thought was, "This is HUGE!" The legs are beefy and thick! Each joint is quite sturdy and very stable. Along each joint and coating each foot are non-slip rubber. My model was black with white rubber. If this is intended for outdoor use or for on-the-go applications, I would have used a color that didn't stain as easily: Black, Dark Gray, or Rust would be BETTER OPTIONS for the trim.At the base of the mount is a small lever that releases the bracket. The bracket screws into the frame of the holder. You have to screw it onto the bracket tightly, and I recommend twisting it to make it secure. The mount rotates but not very easily.The bracket is spring loaded, and it held my iPhone 6S (and my wife's 6S Plus) in a Speck Candyshell case with no issues. There is a piece of rubber at the top of the bracket that has small rubber stops that keep your phone in place so it can accommodate even the bigger iPhone. My Candyshell case does have rubberized edges so it fit snugly without dropping the iPhone.The arms or legs of the tripod are very sturdy. I set it up on different surfaces such as granite, tile, hardwood, leather and even the dashboard of my card. It is more resistant to slipping than any other tripod of this type (my old ones had plastic feet which were prone to sliding).As a test, I put it on my leather seat and spread the legs apart by 120 degree intervals. I drove the car and even while turning left, it stayed upright and IN PLACE. As another test, and my dinner-mates were skeptical of my trial, I wrapped the arms around a plastic tumbler and took the third leg and bent it to make it look like a mug-handle. I took a couple of sips and the arms held my tumbler of soda, IN PLACE. That is how strong the arms are...holding a 12 ounce soda. Now I didn't try it with a glass tumbler since they didn't have one in the restaurant but I was pretty amazed at how stable the joints were.It holds your phone in the landscape orientation but I was able to tilt the phone and bend the legs to make it stand in a portrait mode. If the legs are wrapped around a pole or bar, it is stable in either orientation with my experimentation.The chrome bracket doesn't look seaworthy for saltwater, I'm afraid. Freshwater would fare much better for sure but long term it will likely fade and chip over time. It would have been better to design it with a rubberized coating for stability and long term durability. However, on dry land, this will grab onto virtually anything you wish because of the length/sturdiness of the legs. For these reasons, I gave it shy of the 5 stars since it was for fishing. That chrome bracket is not ideal.As designed my tripod is suitable for more dry activities and probably better with less exposure to dirt and grime given the white rubber. But, for performance, strength, flexibility and adaptability, this is hands down the best multijointed tripod I have had in my hands.Two thumbs up.
