Review: Love it - I had it set for a return after thoroughly going through reviews. But as I sat at my table drinking coffee I thought why not at least try it. So I did. I live it. However, if you are opposed to rough texture then you shouldn’t buy it. Know what you are purchasing. As I read through the reviews it struck me that most who purchased it probably weren’t aware the texture is rough nit cold press or hot press. I think it behaves exactly as it should. The pigments don’t go flat as some have said. Too much water and not enough pigment is going to be an issue for this paper. Dry brushing no problem. Heavier pigment per water ratio, great. I am really glad I decided to try it and cancel my return. I’m also going to say it is not bright white if you are expecting bright white. I’d not use the tool provided to remove the paper. I’ve not seen that issue. I’d use a thin metal letter opener to sidestep the removal issue from the block and you should not get any tears. Make sure it’s good and dry before removing as per most blocks. It’s cheaper than arches but I’d not say it’s a replacement for but an addition to adventurous art.

**Q: Does anybody actually notice any difference between the "artist" grade and the "academy" grade paper they have?**
A: I tried the sample package, which was not marked as to what paper is what, and I have no idea which was artist or academy grade.  I even contacted the seller, but they didn't have a way to tell me either.   My paints did not move well on this paper at all!  So, I have just stuck with what I love, Arches.

**Q: There are 3 types of watercolor paper: rough, hot and cold press. Is this rough or cold press? Is it 140 lb paper? Is it white, off white or cream?**
A: Thank you for the question! 
This specific watercolor paper has cold press finish and light texture. 
The color is more of off white/cream-ish.
Thick and stable. 
It has high quality with very competitive price among all Artists’ grade, 100% cotton, 140lb/300gsm names brand watercolor paper.

**Q: I see no review for the hot press paper. can anyone compare the surface of the hot press satine with the cold press fin?**
A: Hot press paper is flat with no texture.  The paint sort of slides on the paper. The cold press has a nice texture (tooth) for watercolors.  It's a matter of preference but cold press and rough are most often the choice of watercolorists.  I purchased a sample pack which had all 3 types of their paper in it, so you could try them all to see which is your preference.   I don't use this paper after trying it.  I personally prefer Arches cold press or rough.

**Q: Any standard mat opening that works with this paper dimensions?**
A: Well, for the 4.9 x 7 paper, I happen to have some old frames I had purchased at A C Moore quite a while ago, and they work fine (there’s some excess, but I had already accounted for that with washi tape). The frame is a Reno 8 x 10 with a white mat. Hope this helps.

However, if you are opposed to rough texture then you shouldn’t buy it. Know what you are purchasing. The pigments don’t go flat as some have said. Too much water and not enough pigment is going to be an issue for this paper. Dry brushing no problem. Heavier pigment per water ratio, great. Regarding all the complaints about paper tears, I have to believe that is user error. If you use the tool that comes with it or a palette knife and use it at an angle, the paper can be removed cleanly. The glue does seem a bit stubborn, but I have no trouble removing the sheets as long as I come at it with an angle and am not overly aggressive. The paper itself is awesome. Scrubbing and lifting has little impact on this paper. Wet on wet is wonderful because the paper stays moist for considerable time. The texture is a bit on the rough side for cold press, but I like this. Almost no buckling on the block. This paper feels much more 'artist grade' than other 100% cotton/artist papers I've tried. Take your time removing sheets from the block and you'll love this stuff.
